New Year's Resolution's Challenge

Anvilite Articles

Note that these are in no particular order, I love them all equally.
Also, each username is a link but it doesn't really show.
1 - Sol System by Annie Stein
This article is magnificent. I've written many solar system articles in my time, but the way this article is laid out inspired me so much to make my own - and I did! The small summary paragraphs of each planet, coupled with the statistics, makes me excited to learn more about each planet. I am most excited to learn about Tellus!
Sol System
Geographic Location | Dec 30, 2023

Between a resentful sun and a hostile galaxy, life persists. Orbiting around the nuclear heart known as Sol are eight planets, each rich in history and culture.

2 - Gauntlet by TJ Trewin
I am in awe at this article. TJ just casually made an entire card game for WE, and this is the level of worldbuilding I aspire to achieve. There is even an example playthrough, which is mindblowing. Truly an incredible article.
Gauntlet
Tradition / Ritual | Dec 12, 2022

A popular strategy-based card game originating in Melior that's enjoyed even beyond the rifts.

3 - Artificial Sun by Callyxtus
I'd like to improve on making technologies, and this is a wonderful article to showcase what can be done. I love the concept and it inspires me to make something as interesting and unique as this.
Artificial Sun
Technology / Science | Jan 1, 2023

The secret technology that allows the Snow elves to thrive and survive in their cave settlements during winter

4 - Gnomes by Han
I won't lie, I spent several minutes staring in awe at the skin, eye and hair colours. I have no idea how it was made, but it is gorgeous. It is an amazingly written article which reminds me about another amazing article of Han's, Gnome Punting. This article really encourages me to work more on the people of my worlds.
Gnome
Species | Oct 20, 2023

A diminutive race descended from the fey; obsessive and devoted, whether to work or to chaos.

5 - Kindly Eggs by Qurilion
I wasn't surprised that this article won the advent prompt, it is incredible. These eggs look absolutely delicious and I really want to try them. The detail on these delicious eggs is incredibly inspiring, as all of Qurilion's work is.
Kindly Eggs
Item | Dec 18, 2022

A popular comfort food across Araea, Kindly Eggs are fried balls of insect meat and egg, mushrooms, fungi, and herbs, with a deep savory taste and hints of sweetness.

6 - Kiadu Wilderness by Amanda McRoberts
A gorgeous article full of small art pieces. This article is a great inspiration for my own locations, as it is structured and laid out much better than my own. As well, it contains many interesting species which if you know me, you know I love species.
Kiadu Wilderness
Geographic Location | Mar 26, 2023

Home to many of the Menait Dynasties citizens, the Kiadu Wilderness protects many secrets from the wandering eyes of the Empire next door, but it is not without it’s dangers and mysteries.

7 - Grave Elk by Stormbril
It'd be a crime not to include a Cathedris article. And of course, I had to choose a species. These creatures have a fascinating cultural importance, partaking in funerals. The blood elk variety are a nice touch, too. Just a wonderful article and species that inspires me to make more creepy creatures in my worlds.
Grave Elk
Species | Aug 7, 2022

Animals drawn to the scent of freshly turned earth; humanity has thus connected them culturally with both death and burials.

8 - Serulian Honey by TC
I wish culinary worldbuilding was more prevalent, because I've seen people make incredible foods for their worlds. This article did a great job at making me hungry, and now I'm sad because I have no honey to consume.
Serulian Honey
Item | Aug 13, 2021
9 - Bloodpeaks by Aster Blackwell
A spookily named mountain range? Yes please. A spookily named volcanic mountain range. HELL YEAH. Of course the flora and fauna caught my attention the most, especially the blood eagles. I quite enjoy blood themed animals; after all, I have blood horses, blood worms and blood frogs in my world. AND the blood elk in Stormbril's grave elk article caught my eye the most.

Geographic Location | Feb 14, 2024
10 - Irathian Funeral Pyres by PanthersEye
I wish I could write articles this long and still keep them interesting. This article is remarkable, and really inspires me to work on the millions of cultures of my world. Agia is such a beautiful world, one of my favourites in fact. Panthers never fails to create articles that pique my interest, and this is no exception.

My New Year's Worldbuilding Resolutions

- Sit Out NaNoWriMo
A bit of an odd goal, but for understandable reasons. The last two years of me being on World Anvil and writing, I have participated in NaNoWriMo. While I have succeeded both times, this year writing about 60k words, it's been a struggle. I haven't enjoyed the start of the month where I'm not sure what to write, as I pants each year, and the end of the month is a struggle to squeeze more words out, so really the only part of NaNo I enjoy is the middle part. Plus I've attempted Mapvember both years simultaneously (and succeeded), which means I am writing an absolute ton of words during November (my birthday month) and it's not good for my health. Which is why I intend to betray my FOMO and sit out NaNo this year.

- Write 200,000 words of worldbuilding this year
There's no easy way to track this, but I will be keeping a record of my word counts in all of my worlds at the start of the year, and then work out how much I have written on the 31st December 2023. 200,000 words in a year is about 550 words a day, and considering that's about 1 article for me, I should be fine. There will be days where I write nothing, and days where I write way more than that, but 200,000 words is my yearly goal.

- Write at least 6 ADITL short stories
I have a series of short stories in the Yonderverse called ADITL (A Day In The Life). These stories detail one day in the life of different species in the Yonderverse. The first two I've written are about a camelcoat on its final day, a pregnant female migrating to the Oasis for refuge, only to be eaten, while the second story is about a teacup crab in its first crab contest with a shiny new teacup shell. These stories are fun to write and I hope to write at least one every two months, as prose takes a long while to write for me.

- Revamp all of my articles, in all of my worlds
Recently, during October 2022, I settled on a layout for the articles in the Yonderverse that I like. It involves simple containers and a scrolling sidebar, which makes mass-producing articles a lot easier. However in other worlds I lack the scrolling sidebar, because I want to spend more time on the organisation and layout of each article. I want to revamp all of my Yonderverse articles that aren't up to date with the layouts, and in other worlds I just need to add containers and some more images. This will take a while, but it is a project I am looking forward to.

I was going to pick 10 articles from WorldEmber for this reading challenge, as the challenge page suggests, but I found it so difficult to just pick 10 that I am sticking with 5, and then picking 5 more articles from outside of WorldEmber.
Basically every single article I've read, not in WorldEmber, but in general, I have loved. I feel awful for those that I have not included on this list, but if I chose every article I loved then it would take me years, and the deadline is the end of the month.

Confronting your FOMO is a valiant goal, I say! Sometimes saying no takes more courage. Will you be counting edited articles towards your word goal too? Best of luck!

Thank you so much! I will be counting edited articles - I have kept track of all of my world's word counts on the 1st January, and I'll just figure out how many words I've written based on that!   There was no way I couldn't include your Sol System article, it is fabulous and inspired me to write my own solar system that I'm proud of, so thank you!

I hope you have a great day!   Explore the endless planets brimming with life of the Yonderverse! Go after creatures, discover new places, and learn about the people you find along the way.   Consider voting for me in the Worldbuilding Awards!
