Sorrowing Sprite

Sorrowing sprites are humanoid inanimals wandering the Whispering Woods. They are the embodiment of mourning and sadness, absorbing the grief of creatures around them and eternally weeping.
These sprites are more humanoid than most, with a short bipedal frame, short arms and legs, and a tiny head. They lack a mouth, but have a pair of ears and white eyes. As they sob, golden tears run down their face. Sorrowing sprites are solitary creatures, crying even harder when they encounter another of their kind.
If any traveller approaches the sprite, it will give chase, arms stretched out. The golden tears flow harder the closer the sprite gets, until the sprite wraps its arms around the traveller, crying into the person's orifices until they drown.
Sorrowing sprites often work with weary wanderers. The quiet whispers of a weary wanderer flows through the air, attracting nearby travellers. The sprite hangs close by, waiting for a traveller to get close enough to begin the chase. Both then absorb the life energy upon the traveller's death.
I got chased by a sprite once. It followed me for miles and miles, until it caught up and wrapped its tiny little arms around me. Somehow its tears flowed through the air into my mouth, ears, nose, and eyes, and all I could do was freak out trying to wriggle my way out of its grasp. I managed to stamp on its foot and it let go of me, so I just bolted it as far as I could. I barely escaped, and I'm not going back into that forest.
