Ecology of the Dragon Forest
The Dragon Forest is an extremely mountainous region, with hilly terrain dividing it and the various deserts to the west. These mountains are covered in dense subtropical forests with nutrient rich soil. Since it only rains twice a year in the Western Dragon Forest, lifeforms rely on the thousands of rivers and lakes flowing down the mountains and gathering on large plateaus.
The varying climates across this biome has resulted in a great number of unique species in the area. The humid and dry halves of the Dragon Forest each have their own set of organisms, with some able to thrive in both.
Animalia
Over five thousand species of insects alone have been identified in the Dragon Forest. Skies are full of birds and other flying animals, various climbing creatures skip through the tall, weaving branches, and tiny grazing animals roam through the thick groundcover.
The Dragon Forest's state bird is the jinh, a tiny pink passerine. The forest's State Animal is the pulun, a carnivorous mammal designed for stalking and pouncing on prey from above.

Being such a dense region, the Dragon Forest is packed with flora. Starlight serpents are the dominant tree species, growing in such close proximity to one another that their branches and trunks become entangled. Growing in tight spaces between these trees are grasses, ferns, bamboos, and bushes. Crimson shootroots are the most abundant bamboo species, and is the fastest growing plant on Osao.
Gassy sporepods are a species of short epiphytic fern that grow in the canopies of the forest. When the sporepods are ready, they drop to the ground in a gaseous explosion.

Inanimalia
Inanimals are the backbone of the Dragon Forest's ecosystems. Powerful inanimals are common, utilising magic to get by. Specters are common in the area, often tied to the native flora and fauna.
Those that practice witchcraft on Osao often acquire their familiars from the Dragon Forest, thanks to the types of inanimals found here. The presence of magic and various leylines running through the forest have enhanced these creatures and their magical abilities.
