Wystra

Where these gorgeous birds travel to during the daytime is a question we will never know the answer to.
— Ornithologist on Hothiri
Wystra by Mochi

Wystras are elegant birds inhabiting the Night Islands. These birds form long lines along the canopies of the algal forests, raising their feather trains in unison, facing the moon for hours on end.

The eye-like patterns on these birds glow in the dark of the night, following anyone or anything that gets too close. While these birds are harmless, they evoke an unforgettable sense of anxiety and paranoia.

These animals are creatures of idolism on Hothiri. The workers of Kannvas Oil in particular admire these animals, and envy their ability to roam free.

Their tail feathers mimic ghost wisteria, etheral flowering vines that grow in abundance on almost ever Night Island.

It is believed these birds can cast spells using the glowing eyes on their tail. An angry peacock makes his eyes glow a deep purple, and a happy one a soft pink.

Do any radio signals from tracking devices disappear with the islands? I'd assume so. I bet you could find out where they go by staying on the islands as they fade in the sun, but I guess nobody (but Findan) wants to do that. Findan is evidence it's survivable, but also evidence it's not a good idea.

I think any kind of communication like that wouldn't work from the Night Islands, which would explain why Findan uses notes in bottles, a primitive method that can somewhat reliably get his word out.   And I'm sure there are scientists attempting to study these islands, but given they disappear every day, it's kind of difficult. Plus there's looots of dangerous animals and magical things on the islands that I've yet to write about :D

I hope you have a great day!   Explore the endless planets brimming with life of the Yonderverse! Go after creatures, discover new places, and learn about the people you find along the way.
