Temperil

An eternal thunderstorm wreaks havoc across Temperil. Colossal ancient metal rods stick out of the burnt lands of this planet, guiding the thunderstorm away from civilisations, simultaneously charging them. The Forever Storm lurks in the Dead Zone, entirely uninhabitable due to the animalistic natures of the lightning, that seem to target any living creature.

Geography, Location & Climate

Easily the most dangerous planet in the Cheem System, Temperil is packed full of horrific environments and dreadful monsters. From crust to core, Temperil's climate is stingingly electric, its mantle bursting at the seams, magma seeping through cracks in gorging valleys across the globe. Over half of the planet is encased in the Forever Storm, a supermassive thunderstorm raging around Temperil, hunting down any creature that dare encroach in its territory.

The ground itself is coarse and cracked, with very little water present anywhere. Small boiling lakes can be found round the Equator, with frozen lakes sparsely decorating the Arctic and Antarctic Circles. The native wildlife survive by absorbing the water vapour in the dense air of this planet. Small forests slither through the base of mountain ranges, their jagged peaks ripping into the clouds and the upper atmosphere. The only ocean on the planet is found deep within the Forever Storm's territory. The electrified water is home to thousands of marine species, overdosing on energy generated from each strike of lightning.

Thick copper rods, towering over fifty metres high,  have been implanted into the crust of Temperil, guiding the Forever Storm away from civilisation. Unfortunately, these metal rods simultaneously power the storm; as it grows stronger, it begins to seep back into the bustling world of temperilian civilisation.

History

Temperil spawned in the Cheem System approximately one and a half thousand years ago. The planet was originally mistaken for a gas giant, due to the size of the Forever Storm concealing the solid ground below. The native temperilians have existed far longer than the planet's presence in the Cheem System. In fact, scientists believe the species to have started functioning as a sophont species almost two million years ago. Their progression as a species was severely stunted by the Forever Storm. Most of their technological efforts were dedicated to dissipating the storm, but nothing seemed to work.

The Temperil Space Legion was formed just a thousand years ago, putting all of its time into encouraging the advancement of magitech. Magitech is a branch of magic and science that weaves both together. The Enforcers of the Space Legion have encouraged local magitech businesses to expand their reaches, with these Enforcers promoting local businesses on their social media accounts. The reason for this is to encourage said businesses to try and help temperilians discover a way to dissipate the Forever Storm, but so far no luck.

Ecology

Temperil's wildlife has had to fight against the vengeful climates and environments for millions of years. Because of this, many have evolved into either megafauna or minifauna, to either face the planet head-on, or to hide from it.There are thousands of dangerous animals on Temperil, but none even come close to trode bears.

Without a doubt the most powerful and dangerous bear species in the Yonderverse, trode bears are stuff of nightmares. Roaming the entire planet, trode bears attempt to cure their insatiable appetites with anything that fits in their mouths. These bears stand at five metres in height, capable of running up to sixty miles per hour, plus minor teleportation with their innate connection to electromancy. Nothing stands in their way. The native temperilians fear this species, but thankfully, trode bears are too comfortable in the thick of the Forever Storm that they rarely tread into urban areas. When they do, the world goes into lockdown.

Species on the smaller scale flit between burrows and caves, crevices in the rocky plains, and hide among the thick-leaved trees. These animals are the base of every complex food web, many apex predators hunting small animals for fun and for enrichment. The plant life on Temperil also finds a way to thrive. Parasitic plants and fungi feast on slow-moving megafauna, while titanic trees form ancient forests, creaking and groaning in the harsh winds for thousands of years.
