Gaslit Realm

The Gaslit Realm is an elemental plane of existence tied to Pyromancy. It is characterised by a barren rocky environment with volcanoes, tall thermal vents, and flowing rivers of lava. Pyromancers draw magic and energy from this realm, powering all related spells.

It is one of the most well-known elemental planes, appearing in different forms in countless religions and mythologies. The Gaslit Realm is given many names, often called the same name as Hell, a planet in the Kurhira System.

Geography & Climate

Eggy Placeholder by Dr Emily Vair-Turnbull

The skies in the Gaslit Realm is a dark yellow, with a thick murky fog constantly rolling in, but never quite catching up to those exploring the realm. The dry environment is almost entirely lacking water, with minimal vapour present in the atmosphere. The few plants that manage to grow in this realm survive by grasping at what water vapour is available.

The ground cracks in many places, with tremors causing shifts in endless tectonic plates. A honeycomb of cavern systems run infinitely below the ground, leaving massive craters where the surface has collapsed in on itself.

While volcanoes aren't common, thermal vents are. They stand tall over rivers of molten rock, releasing clouds of toxic flammable gases. These gases cause the ground to ignite, leaving trails of fire wherever the dry breeze flows.

Accessing the Gaslit Realm

There are several methods of accessing the Gaslit Realm, however most are dangerous, and potentially fatal. Most create a Ring of Fire, a portal spell involving burning a circle in the ground, opening up a door to the Gaslit Realm. It requires molten amber, a rare resource few have access to.

Entering a Thermal Vent

Inside every thermal vent is a door to the Gaslit Realm. It only opens to those who believe in, and practice magic.   The pressure of deep-sea environments and boiling gases can kill those not careful enough.

Thermal vents are the access point for marine pyromancers. These people harness the fiery power of thermal vents and underwater volcanoes, their mastery over these gorgeous geological landmarks nullifying the danger.

The biggest with this method of entering the Gaslit Realm issue is that most thermal vents are too small to be entered.

Many believe Hell itself to be an access point to the Gaslit Realm. The two are almost identical in terms of geography and geology, visitors of both even noting down similarities in fauna and flora.

Currently no unique portals to the Gaslit Realm have been uncovered, aside from thermal vents which are plentiful.

Many a pyromancer has tried to find more portals to the realm, almost all losing their lives to either the treacherous terrains or vicious beasts lurking around the planet.

I love how the doors in the thermal vents open only to those who believe in magic! I bet I could pass through one of them :) Great job, Mochi!

I wouldn't want to make it my next vacation home, but I do love me some cool pyromancy! The eggy placeholder though has an instant place in my heart <3

I mean, I suppose I wouldn't be cold there. But also this is another one for my list of 'Yonderverse Locations Not To Visit'. :D   I like the idea of doors being present in every thermal vent, just most are too small to wriggle inside.
