Stellar Empires
A stellar empire is a region containing multiple planets all functioning as one political unit. They are not too common within the Yonderverse; individual planetary nations are much more abundant.
Most sophontic species have territories limited to just their home planets. When the species develops space-faring technology, they are invited to expand their claims throughout the entire Yonderverse.
Approximately one in five sophonts have territories on other planets - this does not include when small populations exist elsewhere, such as rubidians having populations on over five thousands planets within the Milky Way.
Acquiring New Planets
The most common method of acquiring new planets is a lengthy legal process, involving hundreds of criteria being filled, and piles of legal documents to be signed. Filing for a new planet requires navigating the complex labyrinth that is the Planetary Acquisition Management Facility, or PAMF.
This process can take months to years depending on urgency. Time-sensitive requests may involve the collapse of native ecosystems that requires involvement, which cannot be done without planetary acquisition. The process will take longer if the request for a new planet is to simply expand territory.
A stellar empire often skips the legal process entirely, claiming a planet through colonisation. A new planet cannot be acquired if it does not qualify as a Harvesting Planet. Most stellar empires claim a planet regardless, often resorting to wiping out or displacing existing colonies.
History
Stellar Empires have been around for billions of years. The most significant empire in the history of the Yonderverse was the Everae Empire, one that should never have existed.
A hundred billion years ago the Storm That Shifted Time brought the past and the future into the present, dragging the futuristic everae into a much more primitive time period. The species was quick to climb to the top of the sophontic hierarchy, using their technological superiority to claim millions of planets across hundreds of galaxies.
The everae saw all other species as inferior. They forces those beneath them into labour, trillions of innocent lives stripped of their rights as people, and as individuals. They were seen as a collective who's only purpose was to sustain the empire.
No other stellar empire has had the impact the Everae Empire did, thankfully. Civilisations have come and gone, risen and collapsed, as they always do. Entire galaxies have been claimed in some cases, such as the Navillan Galaxy, currently occupied by the Avallai.
Major Stellar Empires
Kauzen Empire
The Kauzen Empire contains eight planets within the Galanti Cluster. It refuses to expand its territory, claiming all of its needs are met with the planets it currently rules over.
Razhean Empire
While it may not be an official political body, many consider the string of ninety-five planets under razhean rule to be an empire. It solely exists to protect the planet's native ecosystems.
Karkhalan Empire
With over a thousand planets in the Karkhalan Empire, the oanie have dominated vast stretches of the Lesser Field. They continue to face push-back from the Razhean Empire.
