Orbitfruit

Orbitfruits are oft considered one of the most peculiar and perplexing of the fruits on Capepo. These aeromagical crops are grown in large bundles - a single larger fruit is orbited by several smaller fruits, which contain the seeds.

Such a tricky fruit to grow is only cultivated on a handful of islands around central Barbas. Despite being a very minor export and having little cultural significance, orbitfruit is the national fruit of Naveida, a small island nation.

Native Range

Orbitfruits are actually native to the Serpent's Path. This realm is where aeromancers draw their power from, and the fruit was introduced into the islands of Barbas.

The similar climates helped the fruits survive in the wild, though they should not be there.

This purple fruit grows on small bulbous trees, with thick stalks, long branches and short leaves. One fruit hangs from each branch and as it grows, the branch curves down. A single fruit may naturally grow anywhere up to sixteen centimetres in diameter - the largest recorded fruit, a world record holder, measured in at a whopping ninety centimetres in diameter.

Consuming

Orbitfruits have a flavour similar to that of a mango, and a texture comparable to a watermelon.

Both parts of an orbitfruit are consumed - the main body, and its seed pods. The main body of an orbitfruit is sliced, the flesh eaten while holding the thick purple skin.

The seeds of the fruit are added to salads or mashed into a thick purple paste. It is smeared on slices of bread or infused in teas.
