Junk Bandit

Junk bandits travel around trash planets, dodging security guards and drones, and take valuable treasure from the planetary dumps to sell for a profit. Some sell treasure, others using the planets as places of illegal trade. Some of the largest black market operations have taken place on trash planets, such as the illegal wildlife trade operations on Saiorea that were supposedly ended 184 years ago.
Common folk around the galaxies respect junk bandits for making use of trash, but others find their attitude questionable, given the practice is generally illegal. Nevertheless, junk bandits are common and their practices are unlikely to ever be stopped.
Junk Bandit Society
Communities of junk bandits can be found on abandoned trash planets. Once a planet has been filled, they are abandoned and set off-limits. Junk bandits break through without alerting the Milky Way Waste Disposal Council, and completely strip them of all treasures and trinkets that can be found.
On occasion these planets have turned into a refuge from the law. Since the planets are abandoned and believed to be untouched and restricted, junk bandits can conduct whatever activity they like without being seen.
Given the fact that a lot of people throw away items of value, I can see why such a profession would emerge. I wonder though, are there any health hazards involved? Because I know that dumpster diving and rummaging through trash can come with health and safety issues.
It's deeefinitely a risky job, if the security drones don't catch you and obliterate you, then something on the planet could eat you, radioactive trash everywhere, and lots of sharp objects around :D
