Gekkori
The gekkori are one of five sophonts of Venus. They are found across all of Aphrodite Terra, northern Lada Terra, and southern Ishtar Terra. Gekkori have milennia-old rivalries with coruscians, fellow venusians.
Gekkori are closely related to the kingarii, another sophont of Venus.
Skeletal Structure
The skeletal system of a gekkori is far more complex than most other species. Large cartilaginous plates extend from the spinal cord, with several layers of thin skin on top. These additional body parts are often decorated based on the individual's style, with customised apparel.
Gekkori also feature several crests on their heads. The crests farthest back on the head are used to filter oxygen out of water, allowing these people to breathe underwater. The middle crest is the largest, used for alternate forms of communication, as opposed to speaking. The front crest is solely decorative.
Gekkori are also polyphyodonts, using their spare teeth in clothing. It is considered one of the most endearing, and sometimes creepy, aspects of gekkori culture to foreigners.
Coruscian Rivalry
The aggression seen between these two species have historically been about territory. Up until several hundred years ago, gekkori had consistently tried to claim coruscian territory, around central and southern Lada Terra.
The Aperlanian Islands have been the site of conflict for hundreds of consecutive years. Wars have been waged over who has the rights to this archipelago, as it holds many precious resources that the gekkori desire, but is an important historical, cultural, and religious beacon for coruscians.
This ongoing rivalry has largely cleared up in the last two hundred years, but some tension still lingers.
Do they gift each other teeth jewellery?
Indeed! That would be a fun article, too! Thanks for the idea! <3
