Tar Soup
Oh cool! Your soup came in a skull! Mine's in this fancy goblet with a bunch of fingers wrapped around it. Kinda neat.
Tar soup is a food eaten exclusively by slimes in Razhea Capita's Underworld.
These amorphous beings can digest almost any organic matter, including tar. The steaming soups are a common delicacy around Pride Zones, a handful of establishments catering specifically to slimes and their cuisine.
Petroleum and wood tar are the two most commonly used tars in soups. Petroleum tar is typically gathered from plentiful tar pits, while wood tar is manufactured by the carbonisation of wood, a surprisingly plentiful resource in the Underworld.
Tar in the Underworld
The Furnace
Population: 15
The only part of the Underworld ever used by the Surface, the Furnace is the eater of millions of tonnes of waste. Garbage is disposed of through pipe systems that all lead to the Furnace. These pipes transport waste from across the globe. Thousands of people have been recorded disappearing around these pipes, leaving no trace at all.
Tar is obtained from a number of organic substances, commonly sourced from petroleum on Razhea Capita. Thick, bubbling pits of tar are extremely common in the Underworld, particularly in the deepest parts of the world-city.
The Furnace is a massive producer of tar, the Surface disposing masses of organic matter which morphs into this viscous black liquid. Tar continues to seep through cracks in the Underworld, flooding small towns and villages close to the Furnace. Tar flooding has displaced thousands and irreparably damaged already fragile ecosystems.
So... how would you describe tar soup? It'd burn a hole through my body if I tried the tiniest bit. It's quite nice. It's obviously got that burning kick you'd expect, but once you get past that it's like you've licked a million year old liquid fossil. It's also really filling. Like, you never finish the entire bowl.

Delicious. Is it hyperacidic, alkaline, or was the "burning a hole through my body if I tried the tiniest bit" part an exaggeration?
I couldn't find a lot of information online about the effects of drinking petroleum tar, so I'm just going to say it's very harmful to most people xD
Gee, wonder why. D:
