Stormsurge Sugarcane

Stormsurge sugarcane is an electromagic perennial grass native to southern and eastern Barbas, on Capepo. The plant is harvested for stormsurge sugar, a sour sucrose.

Stormsurge sugar might not be a frequently used food item, but it is well loved. The sour kick from this plant is enjoyed in celebratory meals.

Anatomy

Eggy Placeholder by Dr Emily Vair-Turnbull

The plant typically grows between two and five metres in height. Shoots grow from the base of the plant, a single plant growing around ten different stems. A single stem is around five inches in diameter, with a hollow centre.

Stems are a deep blue in colour, with exactly 105 purple bands around the base of the plant. The hollow centre of the stem is a light yellow, with tiny cilia that passively generate electricity.

Stormsurge sugarcane leaves are a dark blue and grow twice as tall as the fibrous stems. Before the plant is fully mature the leaves wrap around the stems. Once all shoots have fully grown, the leaves release their grip and fan outwards.

Habitat

Stormsurge sugarcane is exclusive to Barbaris, Etheras, and Synasita, three regions of Barbas. They grow close to rivers and lakes on larger islands, in close proximity to other sugarcanes. They thrive in moist environments and places where rainfall is common.

Very neat. Is it ever used as a power source?

I doubt it, since there would most likely be much more efficient power sources :D
