Soul Latching
When a person becomes so intensely enamoured with another, their soul latches onto them. Soul latching is most common with heart witches as an unintended consequence of casting unsafe spells.
Soul latching tethers two people together for eternity, through every universe. It is considered one of the worst curses in existence. A latched soul is physically painful while you are alive, and psychologically painful while you are dead.
Cause & Effect

Soul latching is an obsession with another person, to the point where the obsessed cannot function properly. This fixation is all the person can think about, and it is usually caused by heart magic gone awry. A spell may have been cast wrong, or exposure to raw magic could have altered brain patterns.
Heart magic in itself is dangerous, as in the wrong hands it can cause great damage. Soul latching is typically an unintended side effect of wrong spell-casting, though in rare cases it is deliberate. No witch in their right mind would tether their own soul to another, however.
Consequences
Once a person's soul has latched onto another, it cannot be released. The one soul will chase the other for eternity, through every universe, through every afterlife. It becomes a parasite, constantly sucking the soul dry of energy and life.
Soul latching is sometimes the punishment for committing serious crimes. Heart witches that break magical laws must pay for their crimes. They will spend the rest of existence running from a tethered soul.
The Grand Chorus is the most powerful Chorus of heart witches in the Yonderverse. They punish heart witches for their crimes against the world of magic, and this includes soul latching as a punishment.
