Remon

Remon is one of the largest islands in the Helerin Archipelago. The island is divided between the powerful Kingdom of Remon in the southern and eastern regions, the independent Norran who rule the rugged mountain ranges, and the wilds of the Stonelands and Silverwood, which are the domain of loosely confederated tribal peoples. Remon is a land of contrasts, with its fertile plains and dangerous wildernesses, thriving cities, and isolated, forgotten corners.

Climate

Remon shares the dry-summer climate typical of the archipelago, with hot summers and cooler winters. The southern and eastern regions, where the Kingdom of Remon holds sway, experience milder temperatures and more rainfall, sustaining agriculture and trade. The northern and western parts of the island, particularly the Stonelands, the Grimcrags, and the Silverwood, are much harsher, with cold winds sweeping down from the Sea of Zarroth, creating a more challenging environment. Storms are frequent in the north, particularly along the Bay of Enir and Berin Sound, while the southern coast and the Cape of Larramir are often battered by powerful ocean winds.

Geography

Remon is defined by its dramatic geography, with towering mountain ranges, expansive plains, and treacherous coastlines. The island’s northern regions are dominated by the Grimcrags, the highest mountain range in the archipelago, and the Stonelands, a rugged, inhospitable wilderness. The Norran, a proud and independent people, control these mountains, carving their cities into the cliffs and maintaining a powerful, self-reliant society.   To the south and east, the Kingdom of Remon flourishes on the fertile Wissan Plain and the lands along the Dayn. The kingdom’s capital, Harsann, lies at the heart of this region, though the bustling island city of Jaltra remains the island’s largest and most populous city. The kingdom’s boundaries end at the Grimcrags, the Rejarn Vaults, and the Krund Hills, where the land becomes wilder and more difficult to tame.   The wilds of Remon include the vast, untamed Silverwood in the north and the ancient Wyrmwood to the west. These forests are home to dangerous predators like the Linsarr and Noddumm, and their tribal inhabitants fiercely protect their territory from outsiders. The Cape of Larramir in the far south, with its windswept cliffs and mysterious Forest of Thalin, stands as a remote and foreboding peninsula, largely untouched by the kingdom’s influence.

Flora

Remon’s plant life reflects the diversity of its geography. The fertile plains and river valleys are home to crops like wheat, barley, and fruit orchards, while the forests and mountains support hardier vegetation. Fir, Pine, and Silverhorn trees dominate the forested regions, with shrubs like Pryval and Banthis growing thick in the underbrush. In the more arid areas, such as the Tarndol Heights and the Stonelands, resilient plants like Chorka and Grathor Thorn cling to the rocky ground. The Forest of Thalin on the Cape of Larramir is rich with medicinal plants like Sirathin and Meskia, sought after by herbalists and healers.

Fauna

Remon is home to a wide variety of creatures, many of which pose significant dangers to the island’s inhabitants. The Yrin, massive goat-like herbivores, roam the high mountains of the Grimcrags and Stonelands, while the Lirketh, a monstrous serpent, coils through the depths of the Wyrmwood. The island’s predators include the deadly Linsarr, which prowls both the forests and mountains, and the Rhakkor, a fearsome carnivore that stalks the wilderness.   In the Silverwood and the Stonelands, tribal peoples coexist with dangerous creatures, including the Narshax, large burrowing rodents that threaten settlements with their swarming behavior. The seas around Remon are equally perilous, with predators like the Krethgorr and Lorghee lurking beneath the waves, preying on ships and fishermen.   Birds of prey, such as the Alyrros and Sarnoss, soar over the mountains and plains, while seabirds like the Ulmathren and Stormhunter dominate the coastal skies. The island’s more common wildlife includes golden squirrel, marmots, and Hrynn, woolly sheep-like creatures that graze on the plains and hillsides.

Inhabitants

Remon’s inhabitants are as diverse as its landscapes. The Kingdom of Remon, which controls the southern and eastern regions, is a powerful and prosperous realm. Its people, primarily Humans, thrive on trade, agriculture, and fishing, with Harsann and Jaltra serving as key centers of commerce and governance. The kingdom is ruled by the monarchy, which has endured centuries of internal strife and external threats.   In the mountains, the Norran maintain their independence, living in cities carved into the rock of the Grimcrags and Rejarn Vaults. Their society is highly structured, with a rigid caste system and a deep reverence for tradition and craftsmanship. Under the leadership of Queen Juna Berron, the Norran continue to resist the influence of the Kingdom of Remon, preserving their unique culture and way of life.   The wild regions of Remon, including the Stonelands and Silverwood, are home to loosely confederated tribes, who value their freedom and independence above all else. These tribes are often hostile to both the Norran and the kingdom, defending their territories against encroachment from outsiders. Their way of life is shaped by the harsh environment and the ever-present dangers of the wild creatures that share their lands.
