Boswood

The Boswood is a vast and mysterious forest on the eastern side of Great Forbin, lying beneath the imposing Forn Crags and east of the Bostin Hills. This dense woodland is a haven of biodiversity, with towering trees like Oak and Beech forming a thick canopy that filters sunlight, creating a cool, shaded environment below. The rivers Bos and Artin thread their way through the forest, their waters sustaining the flora and fauna that thrive here.   Deeper into the Boswood, the air becomes fragrant with the earthy scents of damp soil and decaying leaves. The undergrowth is rich and varied, with a mix of shrubs such as Pryval and Banthis, which add texture and complexity to the forest floor. Hidden among the foliage are clusters of the prized Dewindal mushroom, known for its culinary value, as well as the dark and medicinal Blackhelm toadstool, sought after for its healing properties.   The damp, shaded areas of the Boswood are also home to other unique fungi. The large, pale Oxallam fungus can be found nestled among the roots of ancient trees, its dramatic spore clouds fascinating to those who stumble upon it. In contrast, the vibrant Redrim fungus grows as bracket formations on tree trunks, adding bursts of colour to the landscape. However, caution is advised, as the small, white Vossalmas mushroom lurks near tree bases, highly poisonous and often mistaken for harmless species.   Wildlife flourishes in the Boswood. Deer can often be seen grazing peacefully in the early morning, their gentle presence adding to the forest's tranquillity. Wild boars root through the underbrush, foraging for acorns and tubers, while the occasional bear may wander down from the crags, searching for berries or scavenging near rivers. Beavers are industrious builders, creating dams that help shape the waterways, while wolves roam the darker corners of the forest, their haunting howls echoing at night as they hunt in packs.   Birdlife is abundant as well, with golden squirrels darting between branches and various bird species, including the elusive Brightwing and the regal Royal Plume, adding splashes of colour and song to the forest. The occasional owl and hawk can be spotted hunting among the undergrowth, while the soft calls of the Crimson Tarron echo through the trees.   Despite its beauty, the Boswood is not without its dangers. The depths of the forest conceal threats from wild creatures and treacherous terrain. Ancient paths meander through the trees, hinting at the presence of long-lost settlements or sacred groves that once held great significance.   At the hear of the Boswood, the enigmatic figures known as the Twins reside. These beings are said to appear as two identical figures, always moving in unison, their presence felt in the heart of the forest. The Twins possess powers over life and death, embodying the natural cycles of the Boswood. They are neither wholly good nor evil, and those who encounter them are often tested, forced to confront their deepest fears or desires. The Twins are believed to guard certain hidden places within the forest, and they ensure that no one ventures too far into their domain without facing the trials they impose.
