Dawnsreach
The Dawnsreach is a remote peninsula located in the northeast of Great Forbin, characterised by its wide, scrubby plains and low hills. This rugged landscape is largely uninhabited, making it a haven for dangerous creatures and wild flora. With no permanent settlements, the Dawnsreach serves as a natural barrier between the more populous regions of Forbin and the wild lands beyond.
The terrain of the Dawnsreach is predominantly made up of dry, arid grasslands dotted with hardy vegetation. Thornfane and Malofan shrubs thrive in the sandy soil, their tough branches providing shelter for small animals and insects. The occasional Pryval shrub adds a touch of green, its evergreen leaves offering sustenance to foraging creatures. The plains are also home to scattered patches of wild Arraxosa, their vibrant red flowers standing out against the muted earth tones of the landscape.
As one explores the Dawnsreach, the call of the Alyrros can often be heard, soaring high above the hills in search of prey. This majestic bird of prey is known for its impressive wingspan and sharp talons, making it a formidable hunter in the region. Scavengers like the Vulture can also be spotted, playing a vital role in the ecosystem by cleaning up carrion and ensuring the health of the land.
The peninsula's remote location and lack of human habitation have made it a refuge for various dangerous creatures. Rhakkor, large predators known for their speed and ferocity, roam the plains, preying on smaller animals and providing a thrilling challenge for any adventurous hunter. Wyrms are said to burrow beneath the surface, surfacing occasionally to hunt or defend their territory, adding to the air of danger that surrounds the Dawnsreach.
Among its other noteworthy features, the ruins of the Tower of Orkar stand sentinel on the eastern coast. This ancient structure, weathered by time and the elements, serves as a reminder of the region's storied past. Local legends speak of its former glory, with tales of magical rituals and powerful guardians that once roamed the land.
The Dawnsreach is the location of the annual Dawnsreach Hunt.
