Minark Mountains
The Minark Mountains dominate the northwestern landscape of Great Forbin, their rugged peaks forming a formidable barrier between the coastal lowlands and the interior highlands. This expansive range is characterized by steep, jagged cliffs and deep valleys, providing a striking backdrop to the lush Nythran Forest that spreads along the southern edge. Known for their rich mineral veins, the mountains are a source of several significant rivers, including the Fahl and Fedrun, which carve through the landscape, sustaining the regions below.
The lower slopes of the Minark Mountains are alive with vegetation, as sturdy Sirathin and Fir trees cling to the rocky ground, their roots digging deep for sustenance. Scattered Malofan shrubs with their thorny branches thrive in the drier areas, while patches of resilient Nifrin grass provide cover for small mammals and protect the soil from erosion. As one ascends, the flora becomes sparser; only the hardiest species, like the Spireleaf succulent, are able to withstand the harsher conditions at higher elevations.
The valleys of the Minark Mountains conceal rich secrets, where pockets of Silverhorn trees can be found, their sweeping branches offering shade to clusters of wildlife. The upper slopes are home to soaring Rocs, majestic birds of prey that command the skies, while the shadowy hollows harbor elusive creatures like Vorind, lurking in the dense underbrush.
The mountains also serve as a vital trade route for the people of Forbin, particularly through the Nerin Pass, which cuts between the peaks. Along this path, travellers encounter Crommis trees, their golden leaves glimmering in the sunlight, and patches of vibrant Firevine that cling to rocky outcrops, showcasing bright orange flowers against the stark mountain backdrop. Hidden caves and ancient ruins dot the landscape.
The surrounding wilderness, while breathtaking, can be treacherous, with the occasional Rhakkor or bear posing a danger to those who wander too far from the safety of established paths.
The coasts north of the mountains are favoured by the nomadic Fn-Shene.
