White Hills
The White Hills form a distinctive ridge between the verdant Nythran Forest and the valley of the White River, running approximately 20 miles from west to east. This highland area, characterised by its rolling terrain and scattered ruins, is primarily composed of rocky outcrops and grassy slopes, offering a stark contrast to the denser woodlands surrounding it.
The hills are dotted with hardy vegetation, primarily consisting of resilient Fir and Oak trees that cling to the higher elevations. In the lower areas, the landscape is interspersed with Pryval shrubs and patches of Arraxosa, whose vibrant red petals bring a splash of colour to the otherwise muted palette of the hills. These plants not only provide essential cover for local wildlife but also contribute to the overall biodiversity of the region.
Birdlife thrives in the White Hills, where species such as the Alyrros can be spotted gliding overhead, their keen eyesight searching for small mammals among the rocks. Crows, adaptable and intelligent, are frequently seen scavenging for food, while the Sarnoss dives swiftly across the sky, showcasing its remarkable hunting skills. The haunting calls of owls echo through the night, as these nocturnal predators seek out their prey among the shadows.
The hills also bear witness to history, with the ruins of Lurin’s Keep standing as a testament to the past. This ancient fortress, perched at the eastern end of the hills, serves as a reminder of the region's strategic importance during earlier conflicts. Surrounding the ruins, small meadows bloom with wildflowers, attracting pollinators and adding to the picturesque beauty of the landscape.
As the White River winds its way southward, it nourishes the lands below, creating a fertile valley that contrasts sharply with the rocky outcrops of the hills. The interplay between the hills and the river supports diverse ecosystems, with waterfowl such as Geese and Swans frequenting the waterways, while songbirds like the Crimson Tarron fill the air with their melodious tunes.
