Cape Gilia
Cape Gilia is a rugged and wild peninsula at the southwestern tip of Great Forbin, known for its dramatic cliffs, expansive views, and untamed landscapes.
This region is largely uninhabited, with only a few small settlements scattered along the coast, where hardy folk make a living from the sea and the land.
The terrain of Cape Gilia is characterized by steep cliffs that plunge into the azure waters of the Sea of Fair Winds. These cliffs provide a home for various seabirds, including the majestic Ulmathren, which soar above the waves, while the rocky shores are often graced by colonies of seals basking in the sun. The abundant marine life, including fish like the Kiddri and Bellim-Ban, supports a thriving fishing community that relies on the ocean for sustenance.
In the fertile valleys and sheltered slopes of the cape, patches of wildflowers bloom, including Bloodpetal and Gressin, adding vibrant colour to the landscape. The hardy vegetation that clings to the cliffs includes resilient shrubs and grasses that withstand the strong winds that frequently sweep across the region.
The wildlife of Cape Gilia is as diverse as its landscapes. In addition to seals and seabirds, the area is home to various terrestrial animals, including deer and wild boars that roam the lower slopes. The forests provide habitat for creatures like foxes and the occasional bear, while the rivers and streams are frequented by otters, particularly near the mouth of the Hena River.
However, Cape Gilia is not without danger. The waters surrounding the cape can be treacherous, with sudden storms and rocky outcrops posing risks to fishermen and sailors alike. More ominously, the region is rumoured to be home to monstrous creatures. The fearsome Rhakkor may lurk in the shadows of the cliffs. Occasionally, sightings of Lorghee have been reported in the coastal waters, adding to the sense of danger that envelops this rugged area.
The most fearsome presence in Cape Gilia, however, is Thaskor, the Death Warden. This grim figure haunts the treacherous cliffs, standing watch over the coast. Sailors and travellers speak of seeing a shadowy figure gazing out to sea, as if waiting for someone - or something. Thaskor’s gaze is said to bring an unnatural cold that saps the warmth and vitality from those caught in it, leaving them feeling weak and disoriented. The Death Warden’s presence has made the cliffs of Cape Gilia a place of dread, with legends claiming he drags the souls of the dead into the depths of the sea. Locals believe that even the strongest storms are less dangerous than crossing Thaskor’s path, and those who encounter him are often lost to the waves forever.
