Isle of Jaltra

The Isle of Jaltra lies in the Straits of Jaltra, separating the Kingdom of Remon from the realm of Forbin.   Approximately 30 miles long and 10 miles wide, this rugged island is known for its towering cliffs along the southern coast, where the city of Jaltra is perched above the waves. Once the capital of the Kingdom of Remon, Jaltra remains a major trading port and the most populous city in the realm, surpassing even the current capital, Harsann.   The island slopes gently from the north toward the southern cliffs, with rocky highlands and patches of hardy vegetation scattered throughout its interior. Small groves of Pine and Fir trees thrive in the sheltered valleys, while Spireleaf succulents and Thornfane cacti grow in the drier, exposed areas. The island’s northern coast features sandy coves and shallow beaches, while the southern shore is defined by sheer, dramatic cliffs that plunge into the sea, offering a breathtaking view for the inhabitants of Jaltra.   The city of Jaltra is built atop these cliffs, its ancient stone buildings and bustling docks representing a key hub of commerce in the Helerin Archipelago. Jaltra’s harbor is protected by natural rock formations, creating a deepwater port that accommodates large trading vessels from across the islands. Its position in the straits makes Jaltra a vital link between Remon, Great Forbin, and the Seynan Islands to the west.   Though the city is vibrant and prosperous, the island’s interior is sparsely populated, with most inhabitants living along the southern coastline. The highlands are home to seabirds and small mammals, while the rocky landscape and unpredictable weather make it unsuitable for large-scale farming. Despite this, the island’s strategic importance and its rich maritime culture have made it one of the most influential regions in the kingdom.   The Isle of Jaltra stands as a symbol of Remon’s naval and trading power, its high cliffs and bustling port representing both its natural beauty and its essential role in the kingdom’s economy and history.
