Gorlin Forest
Gorlin Forest sprawls across the western coast of Remon, southwest of the Rejarn Vaults and bordered by the rugged Tarndol Heights to the south. This wild and ancient woodland is a place of deep shadows, steep valleys, and thick undergrowth. The forest is dense, its towering Fir, Pine, and Oak trees creating a near-continuous canopy that plunges the ground below into twilight even during the day. Beneath this canopy, mosses and ferns cover the forest floor, while Silverhorn and Banthis shrubs grow thick in the underbrush, adding to the impenetrable feel of the forest.
The deep valleys carved into the forest by streams and hidden ravines are treacherous, their steep walls offering few safe paths. These valleys provide an ideal home for dangerous predators, including the fearsome Linsarr, which lurks in the denser parts of the forest, and the massive Narshax, whose colonies burrow into the earth, creating labyrinthine tunnels. Vorind stalk the forest’s eastern fringes, while Marmots are more common in the hills at the forest’s edge, scurrying among the rocks and acting as prey for the larger beasts that stalk the shadows.
The dense, tangled undergrowth of Gorlin Forest is also home to Firevine, which creeps along the forest floor and drapes over trees, its bright orange flowers a rare burst of color in the gloom. Orangemantle blooms in the clearings, its fragrant clusters perfuming the air, though the plants are far rarer in this deep and untamed part of Remon.
Gorlin Forest has long been a place shunned by most travellers, its reputation for being haunted by both dangerous creatures and supernatural forces keeping all but the most daring explorers at bay. Logging is rare and fraught with peril, as few are willing to brave the creatures that call the forest home. Tarndol, a small town some 30 miles distant across the Tarndol Heights, survives partly on the trade of timber and resources from the forest, though its people are always cautious of venturing too far into its depths.
