The Stonelands
The Stonelands lie in the far northwest of Remon, a rugged and desolate region characterized by vast expanses of rocky steppes and jagged outcrops. This unforgiving landscape is dotted with scrubby grasses and hardy shrubs that cling to life amid the harsh, stony terrain. The soil is thin, and the wind-swept plains offer little shelter from the elements, making the Stonelands one of the most isolated and inhospitable areas on the island.
The people of the Stonelands are tribal communities, fiercely independent and hostile to outsiders, especially to the Norran of the mountains and the Kingdom of Remon. These tribes, who have adapted to the harsh environment over generations, eke out a living through herding and hunting, often coming into conflict with neighbouring groups over the region’s scarce resources.
Among the rocky outcrops of the Stonelands, the ancient being known as Borrak the Colossus slumbers. Borrak is a massive, stone-skinned giant, rumoured to have been created by forgotten magics as a guardian of the land. He only awakens when the Stonelands are threatened, his immense form rising from the earth to crush any who would despoil the region. His presence is both awe-inspiring and terrifying, and the tribes of the Stonelands revere Borrak as a protector, believing that his stirring is a sign of great events to come. The ground trembles with his movements, and his roar can be heard for miles, echoing through the barren landscape.
The northern stretches of the Stonelands are home to dangerous creatures that thrive in the desolation. Monstrous Rhakkor roam the deeper wilderness, preying on both animals and unwary travellers. Further north, even more terrifying creatures are said to lurk, making the region a perilous frontier for those brave or foolhardy enough to venture into its depths.
Despite its dangers, the Stonelands hold a stark beauty, with rolling, rocky hills that offer stunning views of the Bay of Enir to the north. On clear days, the jagged cliffs that mark the coastline can be seen rising sharply from the sea, standing in contrast to the bleak expanse of stone that stretches inland. The region’s remoteness and hostility make it one of the least explored areas of Remon, yet for those who call it home, the Stonelands represent strength, resilience, and freedom.
