Tarndol Heights
The Tarndol Heights rise in the southern reaches of Remon, forming a rugged landscape of rolling hills and rocky outcrops between the Rejarn Vaults and the Cape of Larramir. These hills are less steep than the nearby mountain ranges, but their barren, windswept terrain makes them a harsh environment, with only hardy shrubs like Chorka and Grathor Thorn managing to survive among the jagged rocks. The Pona River flows through the southern valleys, offering a vital water source for both wildlife and the scattered settlements like Tarndol.
The wildlife of the Tarndol Heights is a mix of resilient creatures adapted to the rocky hills. Birds of prey dominate the skies, including the powerful Alyrros and the swift Sarnoss, which nest in the cliffs and hunt small mammals like marmots. Hawks patrol the open areas, searching for prey among the sparse vegetation, while vultures circle overhead, scavenging for the remains of animals taken down by predators or natural causes. Marmots are often found here, as well as Narshax, large burrowing rodents whose colonies burrow networks of tunnels throughout the hillsides. Basorra can sometimes be encountered in the hills that skirt the Forest of Thalin.
The Tarndol Heights are wild and sparsely inhabited, with the town of Tarndol lying in its southeastern reaches. Though the land is difficult to cultivate, the people of the region are hardy and self-reliant, relying on sheep farming and the region’s natural resources.
