The Basorra is a giant, solitary ape native to the forests and deep canyons of western Remon. Known for its immense size and strength, the Basorra is a fearsome and elusive creature, rarely seen by people. These massive apes are highly territorial and are well-adapted to their rugged environment, where they live and hunt in isolation.
Physical Appearance
A fully grown Basorra can stand up to 12 feet tall at the shoulder when on all fours and even taller when standing upright. Their muscular bodies are covered in thick, dark fur, ranging in color from deep brown to black, providing camouflage in the shadowy forests and canyons they inhabit.
Basorras have long, powerful arms designed for climbing and swinging through trees or scaling canyon walls. Their hands are large, with strong fingers capable of grasping rocks and branches with ease. Their faces are broad and expressive, with small, deep-set eyes and a pronounced brow ridge. Despite their size, Basorras are agile and move with surprising speed when necessary.
Habitat
Basorras are native to the remote forests and deep canyons west of Remon’s Tarndol Heights. This region is characterized by dense, ancient woodlands and steep, rocky terrain, offering the Basorra ample cover and isolation. They prefer areas with plentiful vegetation and hidden caves where they can nest and rest undisturbed.
The forests provide a diverse habitat for the Basorra, with tall trees and thick underbrush, while the canyons offer shelter and vantage points for spotting potential prey. These environments are difficult to navigate for most people, making the Basorra's territory one of the least explored regions of Remon.
Behaviour
Basorras are solitary by nature, and they are fiercely territorial. They patrol large territories, using scent marking and vocalizations to warn other creatures away. Encounters between Basorras are rare, and they generally avoid conflict with one another unless competing for territory or food.
These giant apes are primarily herbivores, feeding on goats and other wild herbivores that wander into their range. They also supplement their diet with fruit, leaves, and roots. Despite their imposing size, Basorras are stealthy hunters, using their strength and agility to ambush prey from above, leaping from trees or canyon ledges.
Basorras are known to be highly intelligent, capable of problem-solving and using tools, such as rocks or branches, to help them hunt or defend themselves. While they are not aggressive toward people unless provoked or threatened, they are highly protective of their territory and will not hesitate to attack if they feel encroached upon.
Geographic Distribution
Basorras are found only in the wild regions west of the Tarndol Heights in Remon. This remote and rugged area, with its deep canyons and dense forests, provides the perfect environment for these reclusive creatures. Due to the difficulty of navigating their habitat, Basorras are rarely encountered by people, and their population is believed to be quite low.
Interaction with People
Basorras generally avoid contact with people, and due to their isolated habitat, interactions are infrequent. However, when people venture into their territory, either for hunting or exploration, they may inadvertently provoke a Basorra, leading to dangerous encounters. The strength of a Basorra is unmatched, and their ferocity when defending their territory makes them a formidable opponent.
Despite the risks, the Basorra’s strength and size have made them the subject of fascination in local folklore. Some tales tell of warriors who seek to prove their strength by facing a Basorra in combat, though these stories often end in tragedy. While Basorra pelts are rare, they are highly prized, though most people know better than to hunt these fearsome creatures.
