Rejarn Vaults
The Rejarn Vaults form a formidable mountain range that runs down the western side of Remon, stretching from the Krund Hills in the north to the southern tip of the island. Known for their steep cliffs and deep canyons, the Rejarn Vaults are a striking feature of the island’s landscape, with their rocky terrain making them difficult to traverse. Although they are not as tall as the Grimcrags to the north, the Rejarn Vaults are notorious for their jagged peaks and treacherous pathways.
The lower slopes of the mountains are covered in dense Fir and Pine forests, with Cedar trees also common in the sheltered valleys. As the elevation rises, the forests give way to rocky outcrops and alpine meadows, where hardy shrubs like Chorka and Banthis cling to the steep slopes. Sirathin trees, with their sweeping branches, can be found at higher altitudes, and the rare Silverhorn trees dot the higher passes, standing resilient against the harsh winds that sweep through the range.
The mountains are home to several key locations, including the Norran cities of Grund Ka and Ath Krund, which are built into the rock of the mountains themselves. Grund Ka lies near the point where the River Vallan cascades from the mountains, while Ath Krund marks the northern limit of the range, where the mountains meet the Krund Hills. These cities are architectural marvels, carved into the cliffs and fortified against both the elements and external threats.
The town of Soldra, located on the eastern side of the range, is built into the steep terraces of the Rejarn Vaults. It is connected by a twisting road that winds through the mountains, linking it to the capital of Harsann and the fertile plains beyond. The surrounding region is known for its dangerous terrain, with hidden caves, deep ravines, and narrow passes that make it perilous for travellers.
The Rejarn Vaults are also home to a variety of dangerous creatures, including the Narshax, massive rodents that burrow into the lower slopes and pose a threat to both settlements and livestock. In the more remote and higher reaches of the mountains, predators like the Rhakkor and Linsarr stalk the rocky crags, making the Vaults a treacherous place for those who stray too far from the well-trodden paths.
Despite their dangers, the Rejarn Vaults hold immense strategic and economic importance for the Kingdom of Remon, with their rich mineral deposits and strong natural defenses making them a vital part of the island's infrastructure.
