Royal Palace of the Monarch of Remon
The Royal Palace of the Monarch of Remon, located in the heart of Harsann, stands as a symbol of the kingdom’s enduring power and prestige. It is home to the Court of the King of Remon.
Built in 1476 during the reign of Alynn III, the palace has been the seat of Remon's rulers for centuries, dominating the city’s skyline with its grand towers and fortified walls.
Set on a slight rise near the mouth of the River Dayn, the palace overlooks both the bustling city and the Bay of Harsann, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Its elevated position ensures it can both monitor the waters of the straits and remain a visible emblem of royal authority across the capital.
The palace is a massive stone structure, its construction reflecting the strength and resilience of the kingdom itself. The outer walls are made of dark grey granite, quarried from the distant Grimcrags, and reinforced with bastions at key points. Inside the walls, the palace grounds are meticulously maintained, with courtyards and gardens that offer a striking contrast to the palace’s otherwise imposing presence. Tall cypress and cedar trees line the pathways leading to the inner sanctums.
The palace's design is a testament to both function and grandeur. Its tall, square towers are capped with battlements, and from within them, guards can survey the city below or watch the sea for potential threats. The central keep houses the royal family’s private quarters and the council chambers where the affairs of the kingdom are discussed. Each hall and corridor is adorned with tapestries and mosaics that recount the victories and history of Remon’s rulers, from the rise of Dayn I to the reign of the current king, Dastan III.
The Great Hall of the palace is the centrepiece of the structure, a cavernous room with vaulted ceilings and rows of marble columns. This space is used for grand receptions, royal decrees, and diplomatic events, where the king addresses both the people of Harsann and visiting dignitaries. The hall is lined with portraits of past monarchs, and the throne itself, carved from black oak and inlaid with silver, sits on a raised dais at the far end. Here, the king holds court, dispensing justice and hearing petitions from his subjects.
The eastern wing of the palace is the most private and heavily guarded, home to the king’s family and closest advisors. It contains the royal apartments, including the King’s personal chambers and the Queen’s quarters. Each room is luxuriously decorated with fine silks, gold leaf, and intricately carved furniture. The eastern wing also houses the library, a repository of ancient texts and knowledge where royal scribes work tirelessly to preserve the kingdom’s history and legal records.
In contrast, the western wing is the administrative hub of the palace, where ministers and officials manage the daily workings of the kingdom. Here, the treasury, war council chambers, and various offices can be found. This part of the palace hums with activity, with messengers constantly coming and going, carrying orders to all corners of the realm.
Beneath the palace, deep vaults and tunnels run like veins through the earth, some of which date back to an earlier period in the city’s history. These tunnels, known only to a few, were used during the Siege of Harsann in 1599, allowing supplies and reinforcements to reach the city while Nemarn's forces cut off access from above. Today, the vaults house the royal treasury, as well as other secrets that the crown keeps closely guarded.
Management of the palace is the responsibility of the High Vizier, Lady Korrinsal, while its security, and the protection of the King, rests with the leader of the Palace Guard, Comander Forchamen.
