Tylis Mon
Tylis Mon is a small, crescent-shaped island that lies roughly 18 miles off the northeastern coast of Remon, in the @sea. The island is around 12 miles long and curves like a bow, with high, rugged cliffs rising at either end, and a low, gently sloping saddle in the middle. The island is known for its isolation, and though it once supported small settlements, Tylis Mon has been largely uninhabited for centuries, its ancient ruins a testament to a forgotten past.
The northern and southern cliffs of Tylis Mon are steep and jagged, plunging dramatically into the surrounding sea. These cliffs are home to large colonies of seabirds, particularly Ulmathren and Gulls, which nest in the crags and fill the skies with their cries. The cliffs are also a treacherous barrier to sailors, with sharp rocks below the surface making navigation near the island perilous during rough weather.
The island’s interior is a mixture of rocky terrain and sparse woodlands, with scattered groves of Silverhorn trees dotting the landscape. While most of the island is rocky and barren, the central lowlands are more fertile, with a few sheltered valleys where grasses and hardy shrubs take root. Small springs dot the island, fed by underground streams, though these are unreliable, particularly during the hot, dry summers.
The ruins of a long-abandoned settlement lie in the center of Tylis Mon, remnants of a small town that once thrived during the height of the Thalissian Empire. Today, these ruins are overgrown with wild vegetation, their stone walls crumbling and weathered by centuries of wind and salt. Legends tell of treasure hidden within these ruins, but the dangers of the island, including powerful sea currents and unpredictable weather, deter all but the most determined adventurers.
Tylis Mon’s isolation and mysterious history have made it a place of fascination and fear. Fishermen and sailors often give the island a wide berth, as its surrounding waters are home to dangerous creatures, including Sea Serpents and Krethgorr.
