Thalis Plains

The Thalis Plains stretch across the northern expanse of Mar Mabon, a vast region of rolling grasslands bordered by the Gathoran Sands to the west and the Shidar Highlands to the east. Though much of the plains are wild and untamed, the fertile river valley of the Thalgas cuts through this landscape, providing a rare oasis of greenery in an otherwise arid environment.   The ruins of the ancient city of Thalis, once the heart of the Thalissian Empire, stand near the river’s source—overgrown and abandoned, serving as a reminder of the region’s storied past.   The plains are a mix of open grasslands and rugged terrain. Hardy plants such as Nifrin grass and Malofan shrubs grow throughout the region, well-adapted to the dry conditions. In the rare areas where water gathers, Larionda shrubs thrive, their medicinal seeds valued by local tribes. Occasionally, Gressin flowers bloom, adding splashes of crimson to the otherwise muted landscape.   The plains are inhabited by nomadic tribes descended from the survivors of the Thalissian Empire's destruction in 512. The Jindin tribe of Humans and the Henassim tribe of Boma roam the plains, following herds of Hrynn, wild sheep-like creatures that graze across the open expanses. These tribes have adapted to the harsh environment, but they face constant threats from the region’s predators.   Linsarr, massive and cunning six-legged hunters, stalk the shadows of the ruined cities, while packs of Tak-tak, fearsome carnivorous birds, scour the plains for prey. Occasionally, Basilisks venture from the southern reaches near the Burning Peaks, adding to the danger.   Despite these risks, the Thalis Plains possess a rugged beauty. The endless sky above the rolling grasses creates a sense of boundless freedom, and the ruins of Thalis and Tirmallan stand as haunting reminders of a once-great empire, tempting explorers with the mysteries they still conceal.
