Vale of Echoes

The Vale of Echoes is a long, secluded valley nestled in the northern slopes of the Burning Peaks on Mar Mabon. Bordered by jagged cliffs and shadowed by volcanic ridges, the vale stretches eastward from the mountains, its entrance marked by the crumbling ruins of Rannin Kell. Once a fortified stronghold, these ancient ruins now stand as silent sentinels, their weathered stones echoing the history of a forgotten age.   The valley is remote and difficult to reach, its narrow entrance concealed by steep hills. Within its confines, the Vale of Echoes is a hauntingly quiet place, its name derived from the strange and disorienting way sound travels between its walls. The winds that sweep down from the Burning Peaks carry distant howls and strange calls, amplified by the natural acoustics of the land. These eerie echoes have long deterred all but the bravest travelers and explorers.   The vale's sparse vegetation includes hardy plants like Malofan shrubs and Larionda bushes, clinging to life in the rocky soil. The valley is largely barren, though the occasional patch of Gressin flowers adds splashes of red against the stone. Wildlife here is rare, but the predators that do dwell in the valley are among Helerin's most dangerous. Basilisks and Lirkeths have been known to inhabit the deeper reaches, using the rugged terrain as a hunting ground. Small flocks of Tak-Tak sometimes sweep into the vale in search of prey, and the ever-present threat of Pitressas, giant spiders from the Burning Peaks, lurks in the shadowy crags.   The Vale of Echoes is largely avoided by the people of Mar Mabon, but legends persist of ancient treasures hidden within its forgotten ruins. These stories, along with the vale’s haunting beauty, continue to draw adventurers despite the perils that await.
