Shidar Highlands

The Shidar Highlands stretch along the eastern coast of Mar Mabon, a rugged expanse of upland hills and craggy terrain. Bordered by the Thalis Plains to the west and the Bay of Tharn to the south, this desolate region is marked by steep ridges, sparse vegetation, and a constant wind that sweeps through the highlands. Rivers like the Morskad and Shidon originate in these hills, cutting deep valleys through the landscape before flowing to the coast, providing the rare fertile patches in an otherwise harsh environment.   The highlands are a place of isolation, with ruins from the Thalissian Empire scattered across the region. Morskaddin, an ancient city on the River Morskad, and the forgotten strongholds of Minarthann and Shidoram, are crumbling reminders of the once-powerful civilization. Few people inhabit the highlands now, with only the nomadic Jindin tribe of Humans and the occasional scavenger venturing through the wind-swept hills.   Life in the Shidar Highlands is sparse, with only the hardiest species surviving in the rocky terrain. Malofan shrubs and Larionda bushes dot the hillsides, their resilience to the dry conditions ensuring their survival. Wild herds of Yrin, giant goat-like creatures, roam the rocky slopes, using their agility to navigate the steep cliffs. These herbivores attract predators like Basilisks and Cockatrices, both of which use the rugged terrain to ambush prey. The ruins of Shidoram, in particular, are said to be a favoured haunt of Lirkeths, massive serpentine creatures that stalk the shadows of the old fortress.   The Shidar Highlands are treacherous, with few settlements and little to offer but danger. Yet, the region’s haunting beauty, combined with the ancient mysteries hidden in the ruins, continues to draw adventurers seeking to uncover the lost secrets of the Thalissian Empire.
