Midar Hills
The Midar Hills stretch across southern Teros Major, forming a rugged expanse between the Bayland Plains to the north and the Cape of Dust to the south. The hills are known for their rolling terrain, dotted with rocky outcrops and steep ridges, creating a natural divide between the fertile plains to the north and the more arid southern coastlines. Though much of the region is sparsely populated, the northern edge of the Midar Hills is home to the towns of Hexash and Abatt, where the landscape flattens out and becomes more suitable for human habitation.
The hills are covered in hardy plant species like Lombora grasses and groves of Silverhorn conifers, which thrive in the cooler, higher elevations. In more sheltered valleys, groves of Sirathin trees can be found, their distinctive wide branches offering shade in the otherwise exposed landscape. Patches of Pirthingallam moss grow in the more humid areas along the upper reaches of the River Lespa, which flows from the hills into the fertile plains below. These natural features provide crucial resources for the inhabitants of the region, particularly for the vineyards terraced into the hillsides around the town of Abatt.
Wildlife in the Midar Hills includes herds of wild Hrynn, which graze in the higher elevations, as well as packs of wolves that roam the more remote areas. These predators, along with other smaller carnivores like the foxes and wildcats of Teros, keep the region's ecosystem in balance, although they also present occasional dangers to travelers and the livestock raised in the towns. Hexash is particularly known for its Gorrach breeding, and the annual Gorrach Fair celebrates the skill and strength required to raise and tame these powerful beasts.
Despite the human presence along the northern fringe of the hills, much of the interior remains wild and untamed, with only the bravest venturing deep into the hills for hunting or exploration. The rugged terrain and the natural hazards posed by predators and steep, rocky slopes have kept settlement limited to the outer edges, with the towns of Hexash and Abatt standing as the last bastions of civilization before the wilderness takes hold.
