Charred Hills

The Charred Hills stretch across the southern region of Mar Miskun, forming a rugged and wild landscape that separates the Naylin Desert from the Arrimor Peninsula. Known for their dark, rocky terrain and steep slopes, the hills are a harsh environment, where little vegetation grows beyond hardy shrubs like Chorka and patches of Stonefelt lichen. The hills are named for their scorched appearance, the result of ancient volcanic activity that left the land jagged and barren.   One of the few notable features of the Charred Hills is Barvon Bir, a town located at the westernmost edge of the range, famed for its geothermal springs and geysers. The hot springs are a source of both wonder and economic benefit, as the geothermal energy powers the forges and metalwork of the town. The River Barvon rises from these springs and flows westward, sustaining the few settlements in the region.   The Charred Hills are sparsely inhabited, but they are not without danger. Giant Scorpions are known to prowl the rocky outcrops, lying in wait for prey among the stones. Rumours also persist of Wyrms burrowing deep within the hills, emerging only on rare occasions to hunt.   Travel through the Charred Hills is difficult due to the rugged terrain and frequent rockslides, but a few ancient roads wind through the hills, including the one guarded by Forshahn’s Keep, which stands at the entrance to the pass leading to Kunkana. This ancient fortress is the last line of defence against raiders and creatures from the wilds of the Arrimor Peninsula to the south.   Though the Charred Hills are a place of danger and desolation, they hold a stark beauty, their darkened slopes offering a dramatic contrast to the fertile Riverlands to the west and the golden sands of the Naylin Desert to the east.
