The Sirathin tree is a distinctive conifer native to the highland forests of
Teros Major and
Remon.
Its bark is renowned for its
healing properties, and it is highly sought after by herbalists and healers throughout the region. The Sirathin's ability to survive in rugged, highland environments makes it a valuable resource in these areas, both for its practical and medicinal uses.
Form and Appearance
The Sirathin is a short, sparse conifer with spiky, dark green needles. Its branches are thin and widely spaced, giving the tree a somewhat skeletal appearance. The tree’s bark is rough and dark, but its inner layers contain a pale, fibrous material that can be harvested and steeped in water to create medicinal elixirs. The tree produces small cones that are often overlooked due to their unremarkable appearance.
The Sirathin’s resilience in harsh, mountainous regions gives it a weathered, ancient look, as many of the older trees are scarred from the elements.
Habitat
Sirathin trees thrive in highland regions, particularly in cooler, forested areas. They prefer rocky, well-drained soils and are often found clinging to the sides of cliffs or in the high-altitude forests of Teros Major and Remon. The tree grows best in regions with heavy rainfall during the cooler months.
Sirathin is well adapted to the cold, surviving frosts and high winds that would kill less hardy species.
Geographic Distribution
The Sirathin tree is found primarily in the highland regions of Teros Major, particularly in the Drujin Forest, as well as in parts of Remon, such as the
Drujin Forest and the upland forests near the
River Banrak. It is especially common in areas with steep terrain and cool, moist climates.
Uses
The bark of the Sirathin tree is its most valuable resource. When harvested and steeped in boiling water, the inner bark produces an elixir that is known to speed up the healing of wounds, making it a staple in traditional herbal medicine across the highlands. It is used to treat the lung damage caused by
Stonesickness and helps minimise scarring in survivors of
Tirax’s Kiss.
The bark is typically collected during the cooler months of Lan Kulal and Pressing, when the tree is most resilient and the bark’s healing properties are strongest.
In addition to its medicinal uses, the Sirathin tree’s tough wood is occasionally used for constructing tools and other small items, though its sparseness makes it less ideal for larger projects.
