It's the new year!

Well, not yet, technically. I'm writing this a bit early. But by the time you see this, it will be! (depending on timezone, of course)
Whew, WorldEmber this year was a blast. As of writing this, I'm not quite sure if I've hit my goal yet or if I've stayed at the top of the leaderboard for wordcount - but regardless, everything that I've accomplished this year is something to be proud of.
UPDATE: I did it! Not only did I make 150k, I hit 160k!! I'm so proud of myself - and through the month, I have learned a lot about how I can write. Things that I can use to hit my goal for next WorldEmber!

I'm so glad to have gotten into the WorldAnvil community a bit more. It's truly amazing - all of my friends and the lovely people I have met through this site and its discord are wonderful, supportive, and awesome worldbuilders. Not only has this community been so amazing, but seeing all of the super cool articles that everyone has published has been incredibly inspirational to my own worldbuilding.

I learned CSS this year! A year ago today I had no idea what CSS even was, and 6 months ago I only knew it was that section of the editor that I never touched. Now, however, I've made 4 entire CSS themes, for myself and for my friends, and I'm proud of how they've all turned out! I still have lots to learn, but I've come so far in just the past few months, and I'm truly amazed at myself.

I started sharing my work more! A year ago I was scared to show anyone my work, and I was afraid of judgement or of people hating my worldbuilding. I still have some of these fears, but the community has proven me wrong; people are enjoying my worlds and my worldbuilding, and that means the world to me.

And on that note - Etharai has 22 followers now! This is absolutely wild to me, how much this world has grown in articles, wordcount, and publicity in the last two months!! I appreciate every single one of you, and I'm so excited to see what the future has in store for this little world of mine.

The Project

Anyways, that's enough rambling; for now, at least. Because what I came here to talk about it a project of mine that I've been thinking of doing for the past week or so, spanning all of 2024. And so, I proudly announce my Species-A-Day project for Etharai! The premise of this is quite simple: I will write at least one species article, 300 words or more, every day in 2024.

The Purpose

I have a lot of species articles. Almost half of all of my articles in Etharai are species, to be precise - that's a lot of articles. And, unfortunately, the vast majority of them are stubs. For this Species-A-Day project, I'd like to clear out some of those stubs, as well as flesh out some of the biodiversity of my planet a bit more. So, species-a-day will help me do both of these things. I'd like to focus primarily on the species that I already have created stubs for, but for the sake of not restricting myself and then burning out, I will be making new species as well as ideas for them come to mind.
This project will be a way for me to get into the habit of consistent writing and worldbuilding, and will help with fleshing out my world, bit-by-bit. If I can get one article published for each day of the year in 2024, I will be immensely happy.

Some Stipulations

Now, 366 days is a lot of days. I don't expect myself to be able to write on every single day of the year. Holidays will likely be spent with family, and there's always the possibility of getting sick. This project is first for fun, and second to motivate me to worldbuild consistently. I do not want this to become me forcing myself to write, even if I'm not feeling up to it - if that becomes the case, I will quickly stop enjoying this project. What I may end up doing is writing species in advance for days that I know I won't be available for, though I may also just not write any species for those days; who knows. My goal here is simply to be able to keep up consistent worldbuilding, and so as long as I can do this for most of the days of the year, I will be happy.

That's it!

That's it! That's the announcement! I'm a bit nervous, but mostly excited, publishing this. I think by having this available, I can help hold myself accountable for my goals - something I struggle with, generally. But I'm hopefull for the coming year, and I think that if I set my mind to it, I can definitely finish this project.

Wow!!! 3 things immediately come to mind. First, that is such an amazing goal to set, I hope that you make it and more importantly have fun doing it. Second, I share your fears and sympathize with you. Third, your spreadsheets are awesome! I'm super jealous. I thought that I had a lot of species, but you are going to far exceed them. Great job, have fun, and I look forward to seeing your progress.
