Little is known about the seraph whale, a creature roaming the night sky. Believed by some to be protectors or guardians of Etharai, said by others to be manifestations of the worldmothers themselves, the distance of these creatures lends itself to some mystery. Regardless, the species remains in the planet's orbit, unaware and unaffected by the assumptions of the people living far below.

Anatomy

The seraph whale, when observed from Etharai's surface, appears to be a deep blue colour. While it can only be observed at night, this appears to be true both to the naked eye and those observing through a telescope. However, to those residing in Starhome, the whales have an entirely separate appearance. Their skin swirls and sparkles, mimicking the appearance of galaxies and nebulas. They emit a soft orange-yellow glow, matched by their even more brightly glowing eyes. They have been described as having a "kind gaze". Some astronomers even believe that the seraph whale is a sapient species - though there has been no direct interaction with them, due to their environment, so this remains unproven. The actual size of these whales is somewhat nebulous, but they can grow to at least the size of a city.

Symbolism & Folklore

Seraph whales are a symbol of the unknown, of enigmas, and of the mystery that lies beyond Etharai's skies. To many, they symbolise a promise from the worldmothers - a promise that the world is safe within their hands. They are a symbol of magic, wonder, and of thinking beyond the simple constraints of everyday life. In stories, they are described as wise protectors, all-knowing beings, shapers of the world, and more.

Ooooo they sound so pretty. I think I'd much rather view them from Starhome though. :)
