While playing cards in Ma'akdi, Shael Ash meets Kiha Tiadas. Becoming close friends and traveling companions, the two leave together that night.

Fína Avelson nic Dhána is born to Cian and Moirin Avelson nic Dhána in Finola.

After traveling only 12 leagues South of the separation point, the Southern Expedition Team is found by the only surviving member of the Southeastern Team- who had turned east after separation. This man is Expedition Leader Somran Othro.   EL Othro appears to be severely traumatized from the experience that has (presumably) killed his team, Officials are unable to piece together a coherent story of what happened; what medical care available is provided to him, and a team is dispatched to the closest settlement to find a Mage or Cleric.

Six months after reports are dispatched from the Southern Expedition Team, and three months after their reception in Eris'ka, an elite exploration team led by Expedition Master (EM) Dinead e'Allire is assembled. They are dispatched to the southern reaches of Tolara in order to investigate elements of the reports mentioning the presence of a hostile creature encountered in the region.

Now in Fargur, in southern Rusatar, Kiha is having a lucky streak during a card game against a couple of local guards. A fight breaks out as the Guards accuse her of cheating, and Kiha is arrested. When he attempts to intervene, Shael Ash is arrested as an accomplice.

Thirty years before his birth, after its current ruler dies unexpectedly under mysterious circumstances (failing to leave behind a legitimate heir), Mala'kai Avirotka's parents forge documents of legitimacy and ascend to the Faelkarstonian throne in an effort to keep the Island from falling back into Oliennesian rule.

Mala'kai Avirotka's parents are exposed as "fakes" and Changelings, and ousted as the rulers of Faelkarstone by two figures: Avanin Yres and Bryndras Nezzien.

Having finally come of age, Mala'kai Avirotka assumes the identity of a Dwarf and sets off on his own, heading north through Nisaba Pass. Eventually he settles in the Druumarian Stronghold of Clan Dhal- located in the southern reaches of the Tarael Mountains, between Eris'ka and Ar'lasang Vaerda'ky.

Kesiah Vanmir is born in the Vetian (Human) settlement of Cubra, located on the edge of the Kunik Wild Magic Zone in the Niesen Mountains of eastern Martova.

Having finally had his fill of travel, Mala'kai Avirotka returns home to his parents in Keskala and takes up the role as Winnower for the surrounding forest.

After tracking down poachers near her village and dispensing justice, Ceiba Lanael decides to try the eco-bounty hunter life. After returning to Gillia, she packs her things and leaves to explore Talaina'Vao on her own.

Zuri Golzar begins to show promise in the Druidic arts, like her mother before her. She begins her training, but unfortunately her gift quickly proves to be "twisted".

Shael Ash is saved from a bandit attack by Kod Zuzagar. Under Corellon's guidance he decides to follow Kod, hiring on at his post office in Keskala; officially his position is to escort postage during runs. But Kod and Shael's real work lies in their smuggling business, moving goods and people across borders. Feeling compelled to help out those less fortunate, the majority of their personal cargo consists of escaped slaves trying to settle down in a safer place.

Guided by a map obtained from Marlena Bormann, after four days of travel from Keskala the party discovers the ruins of an old military outpost in the Kogria Mountains; the outpost was originally built by the Dasmiiran Clan Batrun in the early days of Tolara, but lost during the Siege of Greibaurum in 5996.
