Ilmaen Aldan

Ilmaen Aldan is the oldest Arcane Academy in the world; having been conceived of by Elaeran ar’Saeleril in 3992, it took him 23 years to raise the funds and find an appropriate location to build the Academy. In the end, he chose to refurbish an old Vy'thasian Cloister that had once belonged to the Ande'Vayaera Anhuan- a niche religious sect that initially believed that the Cataclysm that created the Vy'thas was a sort of "spiritual rebirth" of Saleh'Alire that would usher in a new Golden Age.
Unfortunately the Sect fell to plague, and the Cloister was left in ruin. After its rediscovery, repairs began in earnest in 4015. By 4038 they were complete. It took another two years for Elaeran ar’Saeleril to recruit teachers and forge a curriculum for the school. And in the year 4040, Ilmaen Aldan officially opened its doors to its first set of 5 students. In 5772, the Island was finally anchored in the Tarael Mountains of Tolara after significant effort by both the Academy's staff students to forge a set of Mithral Chains that would be capable of Anchoring the Island.

Location & Design

Ilmaen Aldan is located on one of the many Vy'thas which exist as a result of the Cataclysm that destroyed the Sa'Avi and ended the First era. It is situated in the middle of the island and consists of a squat, sprawling complex of various corridors and secretive open air gardens- owing its design to its original days as a Cloister.
As a result of its location, however, it is technically not one building, but has become a fully functioning city (Laehan) whose intent is to support the Arcane Academy for which it was founded- though traditionally the entire Island is simply referred to by the Academy's name. But in addition to the city on the Vy'thas with the Academy itself, another city (Ciyalia) sprang up around the site after its Anchoring in the Tarael Mountains.
In recent decades, Ciyalia and Ilmaen Aldan have been connected by the Aeshrotal Tower, which provides easier- and much safer- access for non-winged Sophonts wishing to visit the Island; the tower contains both a flight of stairs, and an elevator, as well as a Transference Circle for the transfer of any larger supplies that cannot be directly obtained through Laehan in some manner or another.
