Franks
Franks have the largest centralised continental European country at this point of history. They control most of what will become the Holy Roman Empire and eventually have it split between modern day France and Germany. They are to all intents a Roman Catholic country and viewed officially by the Church as the successors to the Western Roman Empire.
Structure
The title of Merovingian describes these rulers, with them being a kingship under the first male heir to the throne. Nobles called Jarls rule areas in the name of the king, and swear loyalty to him. Many of them are related to the king either by being born to a family member of marrying into them.
Culture
As a Germanic people they are still quite militaristic, though they are more settled now and have a standing army. They have learned much from Rome, and have adopted the Roman Catholic faith as their own. Some pockets still venerate the old gods but not to the same degree. They look upon others outside their borders as barbaric, and at least uncivilised compared to themselves. They have the view that women are unsuitable for leadership, though in rare cases women do lead. Many of their peoples will openly trade with other cultures especially along their borders. They prefer to trade with Christian nations above all else though. They have a severe dislike, some would say hatred, of the Saxons, who have been at war with them for a number of years now, preventing the Franks expanding into the northeast.
Assets
The Franks control a massive swathe of Europe with rick farmlands, mines of all different kinds spread throughout. Large forests also exist, meaning no shortage of lumber too. They have many stone works & associated mines too. Gold & silver are plentiful, especially to the rich merchant class, nobility and church. Many ports exist especially on the English Channel, and north-western Mediterranean, which exports ores & metals, wood and wine. They also import any number of exotic items unavailable to their own empire.
The army is one of the largest with light & medium infantry, usually armed with spears & Shields, along with either a sword or axe. They are either armed with light or medium armour including helmets. Each is part of larger units usually under control of a noble with a similar set up, though usually better made. They have cavalry units armed with spears, long swords and large shields. Again they are led by nobles. They also have access to skirmishers armed with axes, and either: some javelins, bows, or crossbows.
Their ships are versatile and use a mix of sail & oar for movement.
History
The Franks originally appeared as a tribe on the Rhine, in or about 260 to 289 BCE. They then travelled over time to their present location during the latter part of the fall of the Roman Empire. A group known as the Salians seem to be the precursors to them. The Merovingians were one of the groups / clans / tribes of them that eventually took over from between 481 - 751 BCE.
From there they consolidated their power and made Parisius their capital.
