Hunting the White Stag Plot in The True Dark Ages | World Anvil

Hunting the White Stag

The team get a chance to hunt down a White Stag spoitted in the forest. To catch it would harbour good omens for a year.

Plot points/Scenes

Grimmaz is informed that a White Stag has been spotted in the forest to the east. If he hunts & kills it before other hunters from Saxony & the Valley of the Black Ones get it, he will bring luck & fortune to Eschbach for a year.   He can hunt it any way he wants but it should be him & himself only that brings it down. The team can help, and he can take any number of beaters, dog handlers & such-like to help out, as long as he kills it himself.. There is other gunters too, such as the Saxons, and the Black Elves of the Valley of the Black Ones. If he gets it before they do, then the former will flee, and the latter will congratulate before leaving.   There is a risk of poacher & bandits trying to get it too, but these are more likely to get arrested or killed by his followers than himself unless they are very lucky. They may find a camp of them somewhere that can be closed down if found.   There is a risk that there are animals such as bears & wolves following the Stag too, and they will fight back if cornered.   If Grimmaz kills these as well as the White Stag, it will give him more bragging rights than anyone else. If he does kill the Stag, he will findf that the head & antlers should be mounted in the Motte-and-Bailie and the locals may turn the skin into a cloak for him. No magical effects to it, but it looks really nice and a sign that he is a very good hunter.   The members of the Druid & Germanic clerics might not be very fussed though, so he has to be diplomatic with them. They won't interfere at least directly, but he may find nature turning against him while hunting. As long a she makes some type of donation to the grove, he can keep them happy. Half the meat can be supplied to them for a feast for the locals, and the members of the local Catholic Church will get invited too, as part of a celebration.   All during this time a bard or two may appear as well, telling the story of the hunt and adding near mythical status to it if not kept in check.
