Mikael Andolf is a sergeant-at-arms of the Frankish army. He has served a good 9 years, working his way up. Distrusting of the nobility hasn't stopped him advancing as he is a natural fighter, and good at leading troops. He will fight wherever he is sent.
Originally from a poor family of weavers he would not commit to the family business so when old enough, he signed up to the army. From there, he saw the nobility as a corrupt group of leaders who wouldn't lead from the front, or too busy with politics. From there he trained in using weapons of all types, though showed more skill with a sword. As the same time, he could easily lead troops, especially lowborn and/or troublemakers. This makes him a natural leader of such people.
