Hardline Search

The team have a bit of a hard time. A group of six Ulmist Inquisitors, two Church of Ezra priests, and a hardline Roman Catholic Bishop arrive in town looking for possible heresy. What will the team do to avoid upsetting them and their possible ire?

Plot points/Scenes

The team are going about their business and then approached by a couple of the Burgeaters who will report that a hardline group of Ulmist Inquisitors are making their way from the east into town. They'll have to think of a way to cover up possible excuses & hide a few uncomfortable truths, or fid some other method to keep Eschbach's inhabitants safe.   They can try to hide the inhabitants that are not Christian or members of the Church of Ezra, and pretent that the groves are there as much for show. The groves could be just for show or for a warning against the Old Ways. The Germanic clerics and the Druids may well have to hide or blend in to not stand out.   Another tactic is to try to have a show of force saying that the town runs as smoothly as possible and they're not afraid of the group. This has the chance to turn violent at least in the short term. In the long term this may attract severe conciquences from the imposing 'guests' backers who may look to censure the town, including the Empire due to Charlemagne's ties to the Roman Catholic Church. The sanctions may come in any form.   Either way it may involves a bit of both including a bit of posturing, and they have a writ from the Papacy and signed off by the Court too due to it being a nominally Christian empire.   Al the while any Tieflings, Dragonborn or 'undesireables' have the chance of being rounded up and either killed by being burned at the stake / decapitated, or dragged off by the group. If this does happen, they can be freed by attacking the group on the road and making it look as if they were overrun by Saxons, bandits / outlaws, or other such groups. Also, the 'undesireables' can include non-humans thst aren't close in appearance to humans, and spell-casters.   The group will look to intimidate, scare & cajoule inhabitants to 'let their sins' be known & those of their family, friends & neighbours they believe to be 'sinful'. They may go door-to-door & they may start trying to physically search each & every building. The only one they spend little time is is the church grounds and even then, they may make some type of excuse to admonish Father Tossil for some 'slight' or 'misdomeaner' to try proving they are superior.   If covered right the team can pull it off, and remain unscathed. They are most likely get a black mark of some type against the town but, nothing overly harmful. If they're not careful though it could end up with elements stripped or a few executions to prove who is 'in charge'. Worse comes to the worst, they're stripped of the titles, but if took up with the Crown Court, they are most likely allowed back after a 'heavy fine' or a specific quest to 'prove their worth'.
