Valiant: April Roundup

Hallo all! We're done with the month of April, which has been a busy month for the red panda, since he's officially started his on-call rotation for his IT position (midnight lockout tickets, anyone?). As a result, his sleep schedule has suffered somewhat and along with it, some of the time and focus that are usually reserved for writing. But he's begun to adjust, and a little time and adaptation should be everything that's needed to get things back on track. We've rounded up the episodes he's produced this last month, and hope that we'll have more to bring you next month!
  Dreaming Draught #19: Cheritza
A simple draught, often used as an introductory drink for those that are new to Dreaming draughts.
  CURSEd #35: Media Meltdown
Still reeling from the Nova Incident, CURSE struggles to find their footing in the media firestom to follow.
Dreaming Draught #20: Pumpkin Spice Raccoon
A draught that happens to be a particular favorite of the Syntaritov family.
  Valiant #46: Defined In Opposition
Despite their victory, tensions remain high among the Valiant in the wake of the Nova Incident.

And if you'd like to start from the beginning, the link to Valiant: Season 2 is below!

River Rush - January Update #2

January has been a very quiet month. Still catching up from the holidays and dealing with overall busyness, I haven't been able to write as much as I've wanted.
The goal for the year is still to reach 1 million words in Isekai. After that, we'll have to see where the inspiration takes us.
Hopefully, there will be more updates in the coming months. Happy worldbuilding :)

River Rush - December Update #2

WorldEmber continues!
As of last night, I have completed WE with roughly 13,000 words, but the fires keep burning. My pledge laid out a goal of 25,000 words, so that's what I will continue towards, but the secret goal is still up for grabs :)
This hub article is my WE pledge, but I will also be linking Shiftrex's articles here as well. He finished his first WE article last night on the Fire Islands, home to the Nephilim.

Adventures Across Arvada #2

This week hasn’t been as productive as I’d like, but some progress has been made. I wrote two legends that the reader in me enjoys very much.
First up we have the tale of a legendary fruit that grants great wisdom and immortality to any soul brave enough to make the harrowing trek up the mountains.
The Legend of The Everfruit The Legend of the Everfruit
Next up we have the bone-chilling tale of The Anipaantik and Captain Aric Brenthos, who set off to find a rumored “otherland” but never came home. To this day, various bits of evidence wash ashore that … well, I’ll let you read it for yourself.

The inspiration has been flowing like crazy the last couple of weeks! Isekai officially reached 900,000 words and I have completed 15 prompts so far! I already have ideas for the next 5 and have started brainstorming on a few, but those will have to wait for the rest of the week.
I'm super excited for the next wave of prompts and what this momentum means for Isekai's future!

Valiant: April Roundup

Hallo all! We're back again with the roundup for April, and we've got an exciting update in this one. It looks like the red panda left us another three episodes this past month, and a new project: The Dreaming Draughtbook. There's a little more on that and what it is down below, but for now, here's the Valiant releases for this past month!   Tails #31: Statistically Unfair
In the aftermath of Kaya's kidnapping, the Drifters scramble to find leads, and prepare for her rescue.   CURSEd #26: Avvikerene
Dare, Kwyn, and Whisper arrive at Avvikerene, a curiously paradisiacal world restricted by the Colloquium.   Covenant #33: The Daughters of Maugrimm
On their way to reaching the Ocean of Souls, Jayta and Raikaron acquire a traveling companion, and discuss the nature of souls.   Draught #1: Dreamshare
A little something for those that want to hang out even when they're asleep.   The Dreaming Draughtbook is a little bit of worldbuilding that delves into draughts - magical drinks brewed in the Dreaming. They occasionally feature in the Valiant series, and the red panda's used them from time to time in tabletops and roleplays. After accumulating a number of different draughts over the years, our fluffy historian realized that it would be an excellent idea to collate them all in one place, format them properly, and give them some flavor and context to flesh them out. And on weeks where he isn't able to drop a Valiant episode, he can instead release one of these draughts to make up the gap. (Most Valiant episodes clock in with a wordcount somewhere between 8k and 12k, and what with work and other commitments, sometimes it's just not possible to drop an episode every week.)   This month we'll be leaving the link to The Dreaming Draughtbook below!

Quality of life update #2

I've been working on Toriel's existing articles, rewriting older articles to remove inconsistencies. Especially with the dragon gods (stolen from Wow at the very beginning of my worldbuilding)
I've also added excerpts to numerous articles to give a quick overview, or important information before you even have to read the article! (a god's domain for example, or an organization's goal).

BOOK PROGRESS UPDATE #2

I'm thrilled to share another heartwarming update on my book-writing journey. As of today, I've hit a significant milestone—I've completed 100 pages! That's nearly a third of the way through my planned storyline, and I couldn't be more excited (or more in need of caffeine)!
The process has been incredibly rewarding, and, admittedly, a bit challenging at times. Balancing writing with daily life requires a little bit of magic and a lot of coffee, but each page added feels like a victory. I've fleshed out some thrilling twists, deepened the backstory of our beloved protagonist, and introduced a couple of enigmatic new characters who I think you'll really enjoy.
I'm so grateful for all the support and encouragement from this community. Your enthusiasm fuels my late-night writing sessions and inspires me to keep creating. Please keep sending your thoughts, questions, and feedback—they mean the world to me and truly help shape the story.
Looking forward to sharing the next update with you. Until then, have a happy week!

Caturday Reads #2

  Happy Timezones!
This week was all hectic days and exhausted evenings, but I'm glad I managed to get my reading done and some painting too despite that.
How was your week? Any signs of spring yet? Here we had the weather throw us for a loop with some nice sunny weather during the week, pour snow over us yesterday and letting it all melt today, so we got a nice, wet mix of slurry and mud to greet us outside. On a more positive note, I do notice actually waking up to a bright morning has improved my mood a lot.
Today, I thought I'd showcase a favorite from a fellow #Traveller, Sh4d0wPh03n1x. A must-read if you're thinking of getting your own sustainable, flying heat source.
How Not To Get Eaten by Various Phoenixes
Item | Jan 25, 2025

A little handbook written by an anonymous Phoenix Master to help adventurers find all the phoenixes and earn their trust. Includes tips, tricks, useful and important useless information, and a good sense of humour.

I also ended up re-reading the first three scenes of Rin Garnett' urban fantasy story The Demon of Starr Island. Words are failing me a little, but shortly said I love it and can't wait for the next part to drop.

World-Building Thoughts #2 - Beyond Monocultures: Species, Ethnicity, and Shared Spaces

As creators, we often draw inspiration from the way in which real-world cultures intermingle, diverge, and evolve. Which always makes me think, especially on how fantasy worlds are often potrayed: fantasy species as monolithic entities, each with its own distinct culture, language, and pantheon of gods. A good example is D&Ds, where races like elves, dwarves, and halflings inhabit neatly compartmentalized cultural spheres.
While there's a certain charm in this straightforward approach, it's worth questioning - would the coexistence of multiple sentient species in close proximity naturally lead to such a development? Culture, after all, is not bounded necessarily by race but by geography, shared experiences, and historical exchanges. Ethnicity, in this broader sense, is a pattern of cultural affiliations, that probably should cut across species lines, should multiple sentient species coexist, should it not?
I do like this idea for world-building. It challenges writers to envision societies where cultural identity is not solely tied to species but is a more fluid and overlapping concept. In my own recent attempt, the "Free Realm of Bittermarsh", I specifically toyed with this idea. Here, different sentient species are thrown together by the forces of a hostile environment, and developed into four distinct tribe. Each tribe is unified by shared beliefs, ideals and history, that clashes with the others. So the concept of coexistence between species is not devoid of conflict in itself, it is just another dimension of potential storytelling.
How do you approach this in your own world-building? Do you adhere to the "tradition" of mono-species cultures, or do you experiment with separating species and ethnicity? Or perhabs do you have examples of both in the same world? How do you envision the interplay of species and culture?
(Here, I also link to my lore article on the Free Realm of Bittermarsh, where you can see my attempt of this concept in action.)

The Free Realm of Bittermarsh
Organization | Dec 17, 2024

Bittermarsh is a vast, ecologically diverse marshland in Northern Vespero, home to unique flora, fauna, and four distinct tribes, each with their own cultures and traditions, intertwined within a landscape of both natural beauty and lurking dangers.

Homework Week #2!

The second week is upon us! I've updated my Pledge article to discuss our latest theme of Frontiers!
  https://www.worldanvil.com/w/edda-revised-evtaurus/a/summercamp-2023-pledge21-article
With Power and Frontiers, this Summercamp looks like a great time to build up notable organizations or endeavors. Geopolitical groups and the lands they seek to explore (or pillage if you're making them a bit villainous), magical institutions and the new fields they explore, scientists and inventors and the projects and experiments they undertake, and so on and so forth!
I look forward to the following two themes, as I'm wondering if they'll follow a similar passageway to building up notable groups. Maybe we'll have iconic figures or new discoveries as prompt themes!

Plans for 2023

Welcome to 2023, everyone!
The year has started and with it changes: some strengths, some caution from 2022 lessons, and some new ideas and plans for the Old Worlds.
I prepared a handful of things I want to do this year:

Plan #1 is to post a monthly update to organize my work and life a little bit.
Plan #2 is to plan one month ahead: the goals will not be big and I will have a clear stand on whether I take part in a challenge/competition or not.
Plan #3 is to organize Ædeos to the point it's user-friendly and navigable.

The January update will be coming late, maybe at the end of the week, but you can expect some info regarding the New Year Resolution challenge. Reading is always fun and learning new things is always a good way to start a new year.
Stay safe and have fun worldbuilding!

CASUAL COMMUNITY CHALLENGE #3

It's time once again for another casual community challenge! The casual community challenge is exactly what is sounds like— a low-stakes worldbuilding challenge where the goal is simply to get inspired, and have fun! To participate, all you need to do is write something inspired the prompt, and post a link to your article or story in the comments of this post!
All entries will be shared in the post for the next challenge! If you want to discuss your article, and ask for feedback or advice, you can do so in my discord server!

Prompt for September-October

Everyone is afraid of something. Write about something that someone, somewhere, in your world is afraid of! This could be another person, a place, a concept, or their own past.
Whatever you choose, just make sure to include what someone fears! It could be something feared by a single person, or even something feared by a culture or faith. We'll run through November 1st! But if you're late, there's no worries— you can still comment below and I can add your prompt to the list!

Entries from CCC #2

Post-Summer Camp - Short Story #2 incoming!

So Summer Camp is over. I'm satisfied with this year's effort - would have been nice to get to Silver, but unfortunately life just got a bit too hectic and I didn't really have the energy I needed to get over the sixteen-prompt line. I've come to accept that's OK, I still got some great articles done, and some of those prompts are things I can finish down the line.
A cool little surprise is that while my worldbuilding energy dipped, my *writing* energy has surged! I did my first short story in the Calinan Sea universe about a year ago, and I used some of my time off in the past week to start hammering out a second short story to follow that up. It's already beefier than the first, and by the time I finish it I expect it to weigh in at around 5000-6000 words. It's got a good mix of action, character development and scene-setting I think.
This is also the first story to tie in to the planned novels - I won't spoil too much, but it takes place in the Kalriv Empire and stars a character who will be a minor side-character in the novels. Hoping to have it out by the end of the week if possible.

Vreathe Worldbuilding Update #2 - Elemental research 101

It might not seem like a whole lot has been made in my world over the last two weeks. Almost all of it has been in creating half a dozen or so short articles about chemical elements and describing how they interact with mana and aether, the two sources of magic in my world. They aren't flashy articles and lack images. All of the articles are gathered in this one::

Chemical Elements and interactions with Mana
Material | Nov 12, 2023

A High level overview of various chemical elements and how magic interacts with them on the World of Vreathe.

It doesn't seem like much, but I am laying so much fundamental work for my magic system and worldbuilding in general. Each element I work on gives me at least two more prompts for future articles and I think this is going to eventually make my world much more complete than I ever though possible.
For an example, Neon. Most of us know it's used as a light source when charged with electricity and not much else. I worked that into my world by making it glow when in the presence of magic. It is essential for building mana detectors. It is also the element that makes dangerous magical mists glow.
Another example, Fluorine, is a primary ingredient of Fluorite crystals. In the real world, many of these crystals will fluoresce (give off light) when a UV light is shined on it. I worked that into my world by having these crystals glow when charged with mana. They are used to light city streets and many households use them in place of candlelight. Fluorine compounds are also added to various potions for defense against different types of magic.
My most recent element article, Sodium, describes how mana charged halite crystals (salt) is a basic ingredient for all magic potions. My research then led me down a rabbit hole about soap, which is made of oil, water, and sodium hydroxide. And now in my world you can take a bath and rub magically charged soap all over your body to put various enchantments on yourself.
Now, most fantasy worlds have magic potions, glowing rocks, and more. What I'm trying to do with Vreathe is not just have these common magic objects exist for the sake of existing. I want to give them reasons to exist, explain why they exist, explain how they work, etc. and describing the chemical elements that make up these objects will ensure that future articles are much more complete.
I only have 10 of 92 planned chemical elements researched and described so I have quite a ways to go. Yeah, I'm going to be doing this for awhile... Sorry/not sorry if anyone is expecting flashier, image filled articles like you normally see on my sci-fi world. I know those get more interest but making art is time consuming and it is not a priority right now with my fantasy world. Laying the foundation is way more important right now, something I neglected to do in my previous world.

Awesome Adventures #2

For the second installment of this series, I will once again show you a few entries of Adventure April that demonstrate some specific aspect of adventure building. As always, the list is not exhaustive as there were many great entries.
  1) The Red Rider's Challenge: This last minute submission sadly flew under the radar, but it is a very solid and lovingly crafted adventure. The dungeon is very well designed, providing a good mix of exploration, combat, treasure and humor (take a look at the map pins). The twist at the finale is a nice surprise for the party, allowing an already solid adventure to finish on an even higher note.
The Red Rider's Challenge
Plot | May 2, 2022

  2) Search for the missing research vessel: A sci-fi adventure that does everything a Game Master would want. Tight writing, colorful visuals, and branching paths that enhance the adventure while not drowning in complexity. It is so well written that you could run it easily even after a casual reading.
Search for the Missing Research Vessel
Plot | Apr 1, 2023

A ship named the "Water Splicer" has gone missing and you were hired to find it...

  3) Operation: Summer Wind: A mix of sci-fi and island/pirate themes - the uniqueness of the combination alone makes it well worth a read. This adventure stood out to me because it interweaves two narratives - an external and an internal one - by dealing both with pirates and your best friend's broken relationship. I recommend running this with players who are willing to get invested in an NPC's story, and I promise it will make for a memorable session.
Operation: Summer Wind
Plot | Apr 10, 2023

The sharing period of Adventure April draws to an end, and a new competition has started. It was quite fun reading and writing about these entries! I hope you enjoyed them as well; if you did, show the authors some appreciation for their work!
If you still feel like reading one last adventure, I would very much appreciate your thoughts on mine, Carbon Copy Paradise:
Carbon Copy Paradise
Plot | Apr 30, 2022

A rogue AI has taken over Emerald Gardens Hotel and started to kill its guests. As they attempt to escape, the characters uncover a terrifying truth...

Quick Quip #2 From Next Chapter

I once again feel rather good about a quip in my story and I thought to share it:
“Indeed! A sincere apology is in order…” Medias cleared his throat. “I offer my most humble apologies. My mind was indulging itself thinking of how to best remove the overgrown knife you charitably refer to as a nose. Were it less obtrusive, I would have recalled common courtesy. As recompense, I offer you an occupation on my cousin’s farm. She would happily lash you to a stick as a makeshift scythe and cut chitin wheat three times more effectively.”
Also, I've decided to name this chapter "Snarkness Rising" given the frequency of these kind of quips. Love you all! <3

Leno's Worldbuilding Week Report #2

This week was quite more eventful than the last. I have expanded a bit more on the lore of the Anishans, particularly.
First and foremost, I wrote my fifth Armor Article. This one is dedicated entirely to the Anishans. Inspired by the Crysis Games, this one was quite fun to write. And it gave me a few additional ideas.
Alkatraz Armor
Item | Mar 27, 2022

An Armor that only chooses Anishans. Turn them into the perfect silent killing machines. Primarily operates within Varldstan Niarem.

The other new article I made this week was about a new condition. affecting the Anishan in quite a negative way. It was an idea I have had for some time, so I am happy to finally have it written. It also went full circle with my Azgehder articles (though those are not done yet).
Thematic Anishan Fragmentation
Condition | Mar 25, 2022

An Anishan condition that breaks those afflicted with it. Both in terms of spirit and mind.

I managed to finally write out my article about the Anishan Protection Organization that I started several months ago. It was a fun one, if short. I still have not written much about their opposing faction though.
The Ani-Bescydh League
Organization | Mar 29, 2022

An organization whose objective is to see to the well-being and protection of Anishan who are in need of it.

Last, but not least I finished the character article for the founder of the formerly mentioned protection organization. Her personality went in a direction I was a bit surprised by, and I might need to tone it down a bit in a future overlook. But otherwise it was a fun write.
Bescydh Aliure
Character | Mar 23, 2022

An Celestia Anishan who is the founder of the Ani-Bescydh League and personify Private Security Organizations.

Sunday Spotlight #2!!! - Ancient Legends

Another week, another spotlight by rttuo

As the Numidius is still experiencing a total eclipse (currently slated to be completed on February 11th), the ancient kingdom of Dohas has reappeared (and will be greatly expanded upon very very soon) during one of the games. It reminded us of other long gone civilizations, some so influential the continent is named after them; others, like the Netheril and Mytharan were bitter enemies, both powerful and godlike, and now both gone; while some only exist in legends, even the only city they left behind is believed to be but a myth. While these civilizations left their mark trough monumental achievements, not all that is dormant remains dead as an ancient empire of moon elves has also resurfaced amidst the chaos that is gripping the north, surprising historians and excavators alike.
We wish you all a pleasant week.

See you again next Monday with another Sunday Spotlight!

MONDAY UPDATE #29

Monday! :D
I'm currently at 28519 words for NaNo...I've finished the main plot and am writing scenes from other characters prespectives. XD; ...Turtle and Vex also had a brief meeting 10 years before this story, neither of them remember it in this book (might in future books though XD;), that I'm also writing. :) ...my patreons will get to read the tiny story of that brief meeting in December.
Wayward Heroes has also been awoken from it's slumber in the archives and have returned to the current cast of worlds. Which means that I've also added it to my sheet for WorldEmber.

That's it for this update. <3

MONDAY UPDATE #27

*gurgles* I've got a cold...so I just want to go and sleep. But NaNoWriMo has just started for me so I have to write at least 900 words before I get to go to bed. XD;;
  Written the first scene.... it is very short. XD;; ...so I'll show it off. Don't mind that it's not pretty and maybe not making that much sense. I've got a cold. XD;;
The old wall clock continued ticking as Web opened and closed his mouth. The room wasn’t empty. He should leave as quickly and quietly as he had arrived, but he could not tear his eyes away from the body on the floor. She had to be alive, but he could not sense any signs of life. That was why he had entered this room in the first place. It was supposed to be empty. He had planned to just enter, nick an item and then leave. He could still do that.
Web blinked and shook his head. He couldn’t do that. But he couldn’t stay either. He looked over at the clock and frowned, 7:30 am, he couldn’t stay. The dorm manager would be checking the rooms soon.
Web’s sight strayed back to the body on the floor. She lay flat on her stomach. Her long light brown hair covered her head, parts of the floor and one of her hands. She wore a large pink cardigan and black leggings. He couldn’t see any blood on any of her clothes. He could turn her around and check that she was alright. Maybe he was wrong. She might still be alive. He took a step closer to her.
Before Web reached her he noticed parts of a jumping rope around her neck. He took a step back again. She was dead. His stomach started heaving. He had to leave, before he left any evidence of his presence in this room.
Web pulled on a thread of reality and pushed through the weave, leaving the room empty once again.

I will have to do the art for that one while doing WorldEmber so I'm only aiming for 15k for WE this year. :) (5k for each world, Idyll, Breck's Haven, and Skywell....though, BH will probably steal words from the other two XD ) I'll work on the text while doing NaNo XD;; lol. Though, I need breaks from novel writing during that so it's fine. :)

MONDAY UPDATE #25 -part 2

Ah....yeah. I managed to finish drawings of the three characters before going to bed now... I've had these characters in my head since the beginning of the year. XD
  So...the NaNo story I'm writing this year is the first in a trilogy. Vexander, the pink-haired guy, is the main character in this first novel. The working title for this novel is "Breckskeep: Thief" ...He will be stumbling over a body in a locked room. The second person is named Kell....and they are the main character in the second book. Which has the working title "Breckskeep: Assassin" ( check out this article: The Crimson Claw ) ...they are at the school working undercover to terminate somebody...and...stumble over a dead body... The third person is named Turtle....and they are the main character in the third book...with the working title "Breckskeep: Demon" ....Turtle gets some threatening letters and then somebody ends up dead. XD;
XDD ...the magical school is wild.
(Vex is CIS, Kell is genderfluid and Turtle is non-binary....and they all will end up in a triad poly relationship)
Turtle's article will be posted at the end of the month (possibly this weekend). Vex and Kell will get their articles during WorldEmber.

MONDAY UPDATE #25

This week just whooshed by. XD
I've pondered and planned stuff for the next 4 months... The Kickstarter for the last installment in my CYOA Zine trilogy has been pondered. I'm hoping to have time this weekend to plan it out with post-it notes again. XD;; (not pleased with previous results. XD;; )
  I've pondered the Kickstarter after that which will be 3 coloring books. "The Elves of Idyll", "Breckskeep: Stained Glass", and "Skywell: ????" ...yeah, I haven't come up with a concept for that last book yet. XD;; ....but the Kickstarter will be for all three of them and that will most likely happen in 2023...but I will be working on it during 2022 together with my Blender studies and the webcomic...and I also wanna try to do IRL stained glass. I looked at a lot of stained glass videos during 2020. XD;;;
  ...yeah. The webcomic...well...the novel I'm going to be writing during this year's NaNo is the first in a trilogy that will be drawn as a webcomic...and possibly be released as novels in the future. What I write during NaNo will be reworked to a webcomic script. Though I don't know how much I will be working on this webcomic. ...I have never managed to finish one of them and I always get anxious/depressed about my drawing skills when I try to do anything other than just drawing for fun for myself...it's gotten worse the older I've gotten XD;;

MONDAY UPDATE #24

This update is actually short. XD
I've "finished" the scene outline for this year's NaNo. :D ...I have some small things I've come up with that I have to add but as it looks now the novel will have 35 scenes. :) This means that the scenes have to be around 1429 words long. ...which is doable.
I have been pondering stories for Skywell as well...so I can write worldbuilding for it during WorldEmber as well...Haven't settled on anything other than the pantheon. XD

Well, that's it for this update. :)

Monday Update #23

D: I broke a tooth!!! ... I will be talking to a dentist in half an hour so this has to be fast. XD;
The current Kickstarter will be finished soon. I will hopefully be able to send everything out during the middle of this month. I have started to prepare for the last Kickstarter that will go live during January. :D
I have also been prepping for NaNo. I might be finished with the outline of the plot soon. I will be talking with my sibling about it tomorrow. (Turtle wouldn't let me commit the second murder....not in his school he said. D: )
Posted a half finished image of Turtle last update....I've done one for Vex as well. This is Vexander...or well Vex. Another...well...the actual main character of the story. XD;; (Turtle is there as well because this is the screencap I sent to my sibling. XD )
He's a new maintenance worker at Breckskeep, a school of magic. *looks left, looks right* ...here, a tiny spoiler: (not really, it's apparent pretty early in the story)

MONDAY UPDATE #22

Woop!
The outline for this year's NaNo project is taking shape. There will be at least 2 murders. XD
  I've also made the house of one of the characters in Sims 4. The story takes place mostly in the magical school of Breckskeep but at least 2 scenes take place in this house. XD;; ...yes...I know that I over plan. XD;;;

ah, right, I have a half-finished drawing of the character as well. They are called Turtle by their friends, the students, and some of the other teachers.
They are a teacher at Breckskeep. :) ...I haven't carved in stone what Turtle is a teacher off but probably Spellcrafting and Breckian for beginners (the language used in that pocket world...and it's used for magic).

Monday Update #21

So, it's already time for another weekly update.
I am still working on my Kickstarter but I have also started on the scene outlines for my NaNo project. :3 ...I haven't decided on the murder weapon but "everything" else is mostly decided. Now I just have to decide everything I have decided should work together.
I have also gotten a t-shirt and a mousepad with the world that the story takes place in. XD

Crossed the finish line - Gold and Diamond prompts roundup!

Super happy to have made it through all 31 prompts! And for every prompt to hit my personal word count goal of 750. That's given me a major confidence boost for going into World Ember (if it happens) this year.
Total word count is 25780. That's not including some of the odd bits of text in the sidebar panel, so in all likelihood it's a little bit higher than that. But yeah, super proud of writing all that over the course of a month, whilst working a full time job, and not burning out because of it. Now though? Onto the actual roundup!
Gold/Diamond prompt article with the most words? That actually goes to 'The Coup of Castle Tirav', my article for the diamond prompt, with a massive total of 1037 words.
The Coup of Castle Tirav
Military Conflict | Aug 26, 2023

Gotta be honest, as soon as we got the diamond prompt reveal, I knew what I was going to write about. The big conflict that sets in motion the events of The Wayfarer series. I mean, it's right there! How could I not write about it? (Bonus is that it still fits with my Valissa theme, because they actually help out - anyway, spoilers!!)
Gold prompt article with the least words goes to Songsworn with 783 words:
Songsworn
Military Formation | Aug 26, 2023

Personal favourite of the gold prompts? Such a tough one, but I think I'm going to have to go with my article for prompt #26, Lillian Horner:

Congratulations to everyone out there who has already achieved their Summer Camp goal! And for those of you still writing, keep it up, you're on the final stretch now! :D

Costume challenge 2020 reads #2

#WACostumeChallenge is still on and more articles are their to inspire.
  1. Noblewear; carefully and with no rush broken down with respect to classes and gender. While many motifs used by Barbarossa are easily recognizable, the read is still a pleasure.

  2. The invincible flanel shirts and ripped jeans - the armor of apathy. The idea is kept simple and hilarious. A good laugh guaranteed, especially if you used to wear at least 1 out of 2 items. ;)

Monday update #2

Hello folks! Time for another weekly update. :D
I've relaunched my patreon and will be posting updates over there as well. Those who subscribe will get more a "in depth" update on my worlds and access to articles and information before I make it public. (and weekly "art" sketches...I need to start drawing every week and that's a good way to keep myself accountable)
I will still keep you all updated on the status of "Surviving Idyll" here though.
I have been pondering the kickstarter a bit. I will probably not do any handmade zines next time, they weren't that popular and the ink was a lot more expensive than I had counted on. I've also done some plotting but haven't had the space/time yet to play with my post-it notes. I'm off from work next weekend so I will hopefully have the time then.
As for the new challenge, I will be writing two articles. :) For Idyll I will be writing about the "uniform" of "The House of Adventurers" ...and for Breck's Haven I will be writing about the uniforms of the "mages". I haven't really decided on the name for that profession yet but that's what I will be calling them for now. I'm tempted to do school uniforms for Breckskeep but I'm not sure yet if they will have uniforms or not.

MARCH 2021 WRAP UP (28/03/21)

Right, okay, a couple points. My word I did not get as much writing done as I wanted to this month! From essays to malfunctioning tech, I really have been extremely busy during this final month of Lockdown #2. In this time, I have only managed to publish one article;
Lungroot
Species | May 29, 2023

Written for Peculiar Plants (Mar 2021 Challenge) - A Plant That Offers a High-Risk High-Reward Use

So on to the plans. If you're a usual reader of Destiny, you'll see a bit of a graphical change. I'm slowly dabbling here and there in the CSS functions of the site, and have spent this past month finding lots of different concept arts for headers and simple music for backgrounds! I am always all ears for any feedback concerning this stuff going forward because, well, presentation is for the reader.
While I have a few WIP articles still in the works, I'm currently developing an extremely crucial point in recent history of the world of Destiny in my notes which is putting everything else pretty much on hold. In the mean time, now I've bought a new laptop I will still be working on World Anvil. The plan is to go back over all articles I've published so far, tweaking them, elevating them, just overall new drafts etc. to keep a sort of consistency in lore that's constantly developing behind the scenes.
In other news, I've published a new world; Tales from Goldton. This is set to be Destiny's sister world where in the breaks of worldbuilding and article writing I will hope to pen up little short stories that will either accompany main articles on Destiny or are pieces of lore I have no home for in the overall setting yet or ever. Feel free to follow there if it's something you think you'd be interested in, but I will start to link these short stories to relevant articles on Destiny anyway!
Aaaaand a final point, I have another new world in the works. It's private at the moment until I get a grasp on it, but a quick rundown is it's called "The Hungry Sun" and is an alt-history gothic neo-Victorian fantasy setting where space is safer than the planet's surface... so long as you're not caught by the sun.
I hope everyone's month has been a good one. Vaccines are rolling, the days are lengthening. Slainte math.

A BRIEF XPOSITION #2: Advent Calender Prompts (2020) COMPLETE!

Hi everyone!   A quick update this morning:
  • The World Ember Award Ceremony is starting in 6.5 hours
  • The deadline to finish all 31 advent calendar prompts is in 5.5 hours
  • After a relatively crappy week, I just finished my 31st and final prompt. All of which are >300 words, Published, and Public.
  • I've been writing for 21 straight hours to finalize 18 prompts
  • Today added 13,000 words to my TWC (35,000). Guess I misjudged February's goal. I think that's a good thing? Right?
  • I also won the Baby Janet Lego raffle on today's stream. That was a nice surprise
I'm so tired. If you do choose to peruse my creations (tagged !advent2020), please forgive the very apparent degradation in thought or quality from today's work.   Thank you for reading and see all you beautiful people in 6 hours (or maybe earlier if I join the conversation on Discord with Dimi.

Next 10 discoveries a.k.a. Dimi's challenge #2

The funny thing about this is that very often I would not think of going through random articles. Second funny thing is how the writers are stunned that someone actually reads their work. I forgot what it meant for me and sort of got reminded.   I think we all benefit from it. World Ember: Goal reached

This is my first year in World Anvil and my first time experimenting the "World Ember" challenge. At first I didn't pay too much attention to it since I was having my last exam week at college and I thought that users had to upload something specific for joining. After finishing my exams, I started to be more active on here and I noticed that every article done during December was automatically traced in the word count bar of the challenge. So I started to think... why not trying to actually participate on it? Everything needs a first trial! So, I started to write and develop more articles, several by day. As my world (Kingdom of Moskova) is the setting of a novel in which I'm working, I considered that this was a good opportunity to finally write down many things of its lore I have in my mind. I can't believe that I had completed the main goal of World Ember! I wasn't sure if I was going to reach it since 10k words seem a lot...but I could manage to make it easy! This journal is kinda like a collective report of the the 3 three weeks of WE in which we had to list what we've written during this time . I wasn't able of writing any of the reports at time because 1) Exams , 2) I didn't know that I was participating and 3)... about the pledge...I hadn't planned anything...I just left it flow! WORLDEMBER UPDATE #2 (25/12/2020)

Happy Holidays one and all! Whether you celebrate today, before, after or not at all this is still a time for community and coming together to watch the days get longer and light and life come back to the world.
And for me it's also the day I broke 50k! Well I set a target for 10k but never really planned for anything and am yet to actually treat this whole thing like a competition honestly. An excuse to write and make my published father happy.
In the Hebrides, when we go off to cut peat in a traditional fashion you always bring a flask of whisky with you. You chuck the flask ahead of you and cut until you reach the flask. There, you take a rest and a swig and chuck it again. Rinse and repeat until the flask is empty and you can go off home. That's my WorldEmber goal, just chucking it in a random distance in front of me and I'll see how far that is on New Year's Day. Pretty chuffed I managed to hit the big 50 though!

DIMITRIS CHALLENGE NOTE#2 - SPREAD THE LOVE!

Here's a new bunch of Anvilite articles that need more love, in my opinion!
The Free Dragons
Organization | Dec 14, 2020
I think after Week 2 report I went to look at the articles that remind me of my own a little, just to give myself some restrictions on what to find. This one employs the idea of gods being supported by mortals' faith. I myself was inspired by Terry Pratchett's Discworld rules, though I've changed the concept a little. Here, in this article, this rule is a curse. The world only had three gods before it was placed upon them. And the only god that managed to survive was drugged and sleeping for the last century ;)
Yuan-Ti
Species | Dec 14, 2020
Oh yes, this is a 100% hit. These are Yuan-Ti in an alternate Earth world, placed in Egypt. I just couldn't pass by ;) Check them out!   By the way, I wanna express thank you to Lethann who noticed that I'm using D&D races that might be copyrighted, thus starting a three-day-long project of renaming the species. I still note which species was the inspiration for mine, though. And I'm yet to rename them all in my Timeline, something I'm keeping for until Chronos releases completely.
NETHER SCROLLS
Generic article | Dec 24, 2020
This one is about a foundation of magical theory in Rat_Bowl's world. The scrolls actually fit more text than it appears: after it was read by a person, old text disappears, replaced with the new one ;)
Dame Faye of Alterac
Character | Aug 16, 2021

The Mercenary Knight

Here are fellow Azeroth players, I also play in a campaign set in it right now. The PC has a very interesting detail buried deep in the char sheet: she's undead, and she doesn't know who or what brought her back to life.
Emperor Bartoz Mirmiroz Minituan IV
Character | Dec 24, 2020
A young ruler serving as an acting emperor in arawlins' world. Love the "intensely gazing" in the description of the eyes ;)
Nodvragoda
Settlement | Jun 8, 2023

Nodvragoda (Нодврагода) is a city located in the center-north of Moskova. It is one of the oldest settlements of the country that's still inhabited.

This is an article with so many things from Russian history concentrated in it, I feel like just reading it fills my veins with a mix of vodka and antifreeze more than it happens in the real world, where I've got Russia on the other side of the window! xD   I've joined Gege's Discord because of that, rly xD
Sky Hold Prison
Building / Landmark | Dec 29, 2020

A prison island floating barely above the Sea of Clouds

This one strikes home. Living in a country where the current regime's political opponents end up poisoned by radioactive or chemical weapons, shot less than 100 feet away from Kremlin, or just put away into prisons, I am GLAD we don't have anything like what's described in the article. The GULAG system came close, but not THAT close.
The Tarrasque Market
Settlement | Jul 12, 2022

Under the shell of a dead tarrasque, the underdakr and surface world trade.

A market in the shell of a Tarrasque. What could be cooler?   Unfortunately, not 10 articles but just 8, but I'm reading 2 articles each two days, except when I missed a day last weekend xD   For all featured or anybody who's reading - check out the ACA! It's an additional microchallenge to write (or find in the depths of your world) an article that fits a category sponsored by an Anvilite. There are 5 categories now, with at least 3 waiting for more of your submissions! Try to get a Most Comedic Postmodern Article, Most Disorganised Religion or Most Involved Character prizes! ;)
Anvilite Community Awards 2020

If there's something I've realized this Worldember...

It's the fact that I have SO much left to do. So many new stubs plopping up as I'm writing. So much nature to describe, so many nations, so many ethnicities. Dunia always feels "done" to me, because it's "done" in my head. But when I look at Worldanvil, I realize just how much is missing.
If you've missed my progress, here are the first articles from the first week of worldember:

WantedHero.com remapped

Had a long talk with Höbin over the last few days.

We've been debating about what the next steps are to the development of WantedHero.com, especially with the coming changes of WorldAnvil. It took some time for me to digest some of the new features, and I had more than one panic attack.   I know Dimitris is beyond brilliant and the WA team is mind-blowing when it comes to skill sets...I've just never been a part of a community where things progress faster than I can write. Seriously, anyone who knows me, knows I'm a writing maniac...AND I CANNOT KEEP UP.   *deeeeep breathhhhhh*   Höbin had a good point. We have to "be us" no matter where this platform takes us--because there are two important points I struggle to keep in mind:

#1) This platform is my home.

Seriously--I shut down all my other sites and hosting accounts to move my 30 year empire of writing to this one, individual platform. Why? Because I believe in it THAT much. If you knew how many times I have literally dropped TO MY KNEES and thanked God for Janet and Dimitris, it would astound you.   The other, and equally important aspect I must add, is that the people of this community have become dear, dear friends. I love you all more than you realize. Each morning I look forward to seeing how you all are, for an opportunity to tell you how wonderful you are and how the world can go punt if it's picking on any of you...   I belong here.   Not sure I've ever been able to say that more than 4 times in my life.

#2) Tell the story...and the rest will work itself out.

As my buddy Tillerz would say, 'I want ALL THE THINGS', but everything takes time and has its place.   Wanted Hero is enormous. It really is--but I've had 30 years to work on it. So it's going to take some time to move it over, upload it, and craft it so it has it's own home.   Thanks Höbin. I sure appreciate you fo the pep talk,...and you're right.   We'll get this done, one step at a time.

Our Plans Now

Now that we've learned a little CSS and we know if we get stuck, we'll have help--it's time to map out the experience we'd like to share with readers.   We can't be all things to all people. It doesn't work that way--not in life, and not here--but we CAN make the experience a great one.   What does that mean to you?   It means I'll go back top writing the novels, while Höbin reorganizes he information here on the site, splitting time between public and subscription content. However, both types of content will revolve around the books being written. We're going to pull back on the reigns when it comes to tangents.   If it doesn't link to the stories being told, it goes to the bottom of the To-Do List, if at all.   Thank you Santa, for this new way to share thoughts!
