Elendra Dul‘mon Character in Kingsmaker | World Anvil

Elendra Dul‘mon

General (a.k.a. Lady Elend)

"I may not be one of blue blood heritage like you, General Ulezz.
I may lack the etiquette nobility is so proud of.
And yet here you are, coming back to me, like a loyal underling.
Where is your pride now, what is so interesting about me?"

Elendra, being fully unaware of her charme.

Physical Description

Special abilities

To enhance her natural abilities and finally be able to use the full arsenal of a soldier of the Ivory Legion decided Elendra 4946 to finally become a sorcerer. Seeking out and bonding with an arcane animal of the ability she chose, the lizard not soon after underwent symbiosis with the animal bonding their souls together. She became a Bound Formulist.
Ammo belt

C-H-Cl-3 // Chloroform

Elendra's favourite ammunition. Distractive, easy to take unharmed war prisoners, and quite useful to force herself to sleep if necessary after overworking. There might be other less noble usages, but this lady knows how to keep the awareness of these low.
"Remember this face, it will be the first thing you see when you are back - tied to a chair.
At my mercy.~"

C-O-2 // Carbon dioxide

Freezing bullets. Especially useful against other arcanists. Find out what they use to cast spells and hunt a shock-frost pellet on that limb to temporarily disarm them.
"Cat got your tongue?
No worries, I haven't frozen your nose ... I think."

C-3-H-5-N-3-O-9 // Nitroglycerine

Pellets that go boom. Nuff said. Elendra only rarely uses them against living beings, mostly to cause environmental advantages.
"Let me create a trench real quick."
*click, click, BOOM! KABLAM!*

C-9-H-13-N-O-3 // Adrenaline

Usually combined with a tiny quint of nitroglycerine to enhance her whole troops for a quick and merciless onslaught. May also be used in her field doctor emergency package.
"We Elendsklingen are ready!
!C-9-H-13-N-O-3!
Breath in and CHARGE, my beauties!"

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Elendra got born in 4928 as the second child of a silk merchant couple and grew up under quite frugal conditions. Poverty was an everlasting guest in house Dul’mon as the war with Scorzosa, which started 28 years ago, whittled down any and all established trading routes overseas with Scorzosa keeping the harbours under constant bombardment.
Elendra was only able to enjoy a good scholarship if she got herself prematurely drafted into the ivory army to join the Jack’s cause upon graduation.
But with the war coming to a turning point in 4943, with Nemthi slowly getting pushed back and out of the continent dominated by Scorzosa, was Elendra’s family forced to migrate to the mainland leaving behind the little they still had left. Elendra and her older brother Gerrad were forced to stop their studies at 15 and respectively 16 years and join the army as reservists. Gerrad was mentally not at all suited for the battlefield and stood close to his fierce sister, who was a natural with the rapier, protecting them both to his best capabilities being a Reflectormage following their parent’s wish to have them both return unharmed.

Elendra quickly got the doubtful attention of Ivory Jack, who was impressed by her track record despite her young age, desiring to promote her, but not her brother to a soldier of the naval army. Being powerless to fight the separation Elendra and Gerrad vowed to each other to meet again and reunite as quickly as possible.

The frilled lizard joined Jack’s flagship, the ‚Novomoy‘ first as a cabin girl, but her fierce and fairly damaged personality showed the crew quickly that the young lizard was not meant to follow lowish orders but much rather be the one giving them. As the years went by and Elendra’s presence on the Novomoy saved the crew on multiple occasions from certain doom celebrated she her 18th birthday with a promotion to Lieutenant now responsible for the stationed army. The Jack himself congratulated her to her promotion and organized the party. When Elendra asked her highest to invite her brother she experienced for the first time the true expense of the reason why people called him the ‚Cruel‘. Cold and brash information, that Gerrad joined the field medics on the battlefield and likely ceased to be not wanting to abandon the spent clerics as it was order of his. He presumingly died a treacherous traitor.

Realizing, that this could mean that her brother might be now a war prisoner, and knowing just how ‚much‘ Jack cared about prisoner exchange, saw Lieutenant Elendra her current naval career as a hindrance to keeping her vow, being far away from the land unit. So she announced, much to the dismay of the Novomoy, to move to the land units to lead the charge down there ‚until the name of her brother is cleared again‘.

Relocation to the ground units proved to be much more difficult than anticipated with her struggling to stay relevant in the army being up to this point a mere gifted and therefore not possessing any abilities to use ranged weaponry. It was at that point that she finally decided to become a mage accepting symbiosis with an arcane animal to gain their powers. She decided on adapting the powers of a Formulist using her fascination for chemistry of hers to develop interesting usages of her new might becoming a discount cleric for her own unit.

With the power of formulas on her fingertips did Elendra enhance her fighting style with a gun catalyst forging her into a versatile and dangerous foe able to wield a plethora of different bullets. But her track record was lacking. The former ruthless teen turned into a considerate leader, who prefers to capture her enemies for interrogations.
"Submit yourself to me and I will go easy on you.
I have permission to use force, but I will only treat you like you hopefully treat my brother. Now talk, will you?
I-is he alright?"

Interrogation of a Scorzosa general

After numerous failed attempts one war prisoner finally spilt the beans, being oddly entranced by her harsh words and soft actions as well as her beauty.
Promising her to ask around for Gerrad she let the Nightelf go, half-expecting him to immediately betray her generosity.
But the polar opposite happened as the Nightelf, called Ulezz, sent her a few nights later a message, claiming that he found her brother in prison, enjoying an oddly good stand with the wardens. He also requested something strange: To return to her side.
Not at a prisoner, but as an ally to his generous lady and her alone.

Lady Elend:
Finding the idea of an enemy having turned to fight at her side Elendra agreed to the proposal and gathered her first follower of many to follow. She however quickly realized that Ulezz desired a state of neutrality under her, not wanting to fight his own troops unless they threaten 'Lady Elend' as he lovingly called her.
Elendra continued to use her strangely enticing nature mixed with her undeniable physical attraction to convert more influential or fed-up soldiers of the enemy to her cause, enticing them with her beauty and promises. All to gather a followership of people around her, that maybe can help her to rescue her brother as her Jack was never in all these years requesting a singular prisoner exchange.

The new and growing group of converted nightelves and the closest allies of Elendra was founded after a year of expanding the mercenary group 'Elendsklinge', a semi-neutral party attempting to use the mixed origins to deescalate dire situations on the battlefield. But Elendra's men and women were following a different agenda.
To appease their Lady used every nightelf every connection they had to open the path for Elendra to advance to Scorzosa's capital to be the one to free her brother.
"What do you want, elf. I have nothing to say."
...
A-a letter from Lady Elend? ... Elendra? Sister!
L-let me read it, I beg you!
(...)
Your words make me so happy.
Sister trusts you, Léonel, means I will trust you.
Thank you for this gift to make my life worthwhile."

The first letter after 5 years (4961)

But every advancement of the Elendsklingen got met with yet another backlash as the war got worse and worse with the group struggling to maintain their neutrality.
More and more followers of Elendra became wanted in their own country, getting treated as traitors. And to make matters worse the group lost sight of Gerrad in 4972 when he got moved from his old home being now a servant of the Goship's to their southern palace and out of Elendra's reach.
Nobody of the Elendsklingen was from now on able to get to him, only former General Ulezz was able to maintain a letter contact being an old friend of queen Aléssla keeping the siblings at ease being still able to write with each other.

General in waiting Dul'mon:
In 4983 attempted the Ivory Jack finally, after years of not caring about her little stockholm-syndrome grouping, reinstated Lieutenant Du'mond as a general of his cause erasing the neutrality of the Elendsklingen. She however never accepted that doubtful honour having witnessed in her neutral group just how ruthless and uncaring the Jack got over the decades. Continuing to work in the grey zone, she rescued instead of depleted Clerics like the ones Gerrad gave his freedom for all these years ago.
The Elendsklingen, formerly a cult to make Elendra happy, found after many ups and downs finally its purpose in being a shiny grouping of humility against the lack of morals on the battlefields.
It was not until the fateful night in 4987, that Elendra finally decided to accept the rank of a general in the Ivory Legion.
Elendra will be a crucial part of Mending and Havoc. Find out what happens with her and the Elendsklingen in the novel.

Gerrad Dul'mon

Gerrad the servant by Soulwing98

Elendra's big bro, the soft side of this unfortunate sibling duo. Gerrad never wanted to harm anybody and therefore used his holographic heritage magic to protect others wherever he went.
After getting caught and interrogated by Scorzosa did the warden quickly realize just how much cannon fodder he was and that he will never be part of any prisoner exchange. Warden Ploréc did his best to make his stay in the prison a good one treating him more as a friend than an enemy. He was also, who made Queen Aléssla aware of his existence and his gentle nature and gave him a second chance to become a servant of the queen.
It was at that point also, when the Elendsklingen finally created a steady letter flow with his sister, his life on enemy turf was finally tolerable.
Surely nothing bad could ever happen to his new master, could it?

The Elendsklingen

"Lady Elend has such a wild and untamed aura around her.
Yet she is gentle and loves us all.
I couldn't imagine serving and protecting anybody but my mistress."

Klinge Léonel

The Elendsklingen can be only described as a personality cult built around Elendra

'Lady Elend' Dul'mon. She never liked it to get intel via force and used other means instead to get her handpicked war prisoners to talk, one which involved much flirting and maddening gentle touches. While General Ulezz's induced Stockholm syndrome was not intended by Elendra did she hone these skills in the coming years converting men and women of the enemy as well as abandoned burned-out clerics from her own army to her mercenary group.
...
Her Ego is suurely still quite normal and not at all bloated by the praise and attention.

What a fitting fate for both of us, dear sister. I was always the one of us, who wanted to be there for others, who followed orders and who never wanted the first ice cream. And now am I serving the queen of the enemy as property servant.
But don't worry, mistress is good to me.

And you, I witnessed just what you did with Léonel, with Ulezz; everyone. You were always the dominant of us, the sibling with desires, a maker. And now have you a literal Fanclub consisting of the enemy.

I fell to them, they fell for you.~
