Web is an alias. Nobody knows the true identity of the most famous gentleman thief in this world's several thousands of years long history.
Many believe that Web is only a thrill seeker because they will return what they have stolen. There are also rumors that they leave money to the poor, how Web has received this money is unknown but according to the rumors, they have stolen or hacked it from dirty organizations.

Why would Web steal your necklace? It's not worth that much...

First appearance

More than 10 years ago famous items started disappearing from museums and the mansions of rich people. At all the crime scenes the only evidence that The Court Wardens could find were spider webs from a spider species that can only be found in the Whisperwilds. This is why the newspapers started calling the thief "Web".
Most of the items were returned to the HQ of the Wardens, the newspaper buildings, or even in other rooms of the mansions that they were stolen from. With the appearance of the items, only the same webs could be found at the scenes.
After the nickname "Web" was used for the thief in newspapers the Wardens, the newspapers and the rich people started getting notices signed "The Web" when the thief returned the items and before the thief took them.

Theories

There are several theories both about who Web is and how the thief manages to get through wards and other security.
It is a popular theory among youngsters that the young millionaire Jace Castle, is the thief but there is no evidence for this.
Another popular theory is that Web must be a Warden. Only the Wardens can get through some of the wards after all. Or maybe the thief has found a way to corrupt the wards without a trace.
A less popular theory is that Web is a demon, who has possessed somebody or is controlled by a Warlock Mage. This theory scares a lot of people.
None of these theories are true.

Famous heists

Web has managed to steal Breck's Focus twice and people are waiting with bated breath for the thief to steal the focus from its new resting place in Breckskeep.
Another item that Web has stolen several times is a famous painting of a spider and its web owned by Jace Castle. Many of the times that the painting was stolen it had been protected by Wardens and Mages.
