The Rain Bow Item in Acaelica | World Anvil

The Rain Bow

The Rain Bow was attained by The Party⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣after they solved a strange puzzle in a hidden space beneath a tree in The Fellgleam. It is unknown who crafted the bow or left it obscured there, but Faewynn Treewalker has put it to much better use than they apparently did.

Lilli Longshadow instructed the party to meet her near this tree after their quest to capture the nothic Roach. She had identified it as a safe place to sleep after the day had taken them too far from her home to return before nightfall.

The bow is composed of dark oak wood, carved intricately with floral and runic design. Subtle rainbow hues can occasionally be seen coursing through the wood.

After Faewynn Treewalker⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ solved the puzzle of The Glowing Pillars⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ (with some small help from Murmus Bigtoe⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣), a chest appeared in the room which contained the bow. Its origins are unclear, but the bow's inherent combination of whimsy and lethality is almost certainly derived from the Fey.

This magic weapon grants a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it when it’s used to make a ranged attack.

The weapon requires no ammunition; it magically produces one piece of ammunition each time you make a ranged attack with it, unless you manually load it. The ammunition produced by the weapon cycles through the colors of the rainbow and vanishes the instant after it hits or misses a target.

When an attack roll made with this weapon exceeds the target's AC by 5 or more, the arrow pierces through its target. If any additional enemies are within 10 feet of the original target, the arrow chooses one at random and attacks them as well. Make a separate attack roll for each target affected in this manner.

Proficiency with a longbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

Follow the Rainbow. Once per day, ammunition produced and fired by this weapon makes a rainbow appear in its path for up to 1 minute. The rainbow can be dismissed at will by the bow's wielder. This ability recharges at dawn.
