Neverwinter Stories: Campaign 1 — Session 30

Book One: The Trees of Life and Death — Chapter Thirty: Riverside Riddle

General Summary

The Redwings arrived at Blackford Crossing late in the afternoon. Some went through the Order of the Gauntlet's customs to find lodging, while others stayed in the wagon for the night. Those who went in—Lilith, Half-Moon, and Alessandra, rendezvoused with Miguel and Erky Timbers. The two vagabonds explained that Benjalem's riddlerock can be found on the earthmote above the in town goblin wharf known as Rawrblarg.
Markus chose to go around the fishing village, diving into the River Mirar and scouring its bed. After a small fishing accident, the knight errant stumbled upon a fey creature, whose naked form blinded him. Quickly he returned to Askra for a cure and rest. Meanwhile, Alessandra sent Jekyll to the earthmote to gather intelligence. He returned with not long after saying that the rock was inside of a guarded hut and with its riddle.
After regrouping and solving the riddle, the party surveyed the village. They quickly found the wharf, where they found two goblin captains, Larm and Tolx, bickering about what uniforms their sailors should wear: a red, stereotypical pirate costume or blue vestments to their god, Aegina. After observing that those who had seen Aegina went blind, Alessandra feigned the condition, tricking the captains and settling their dispute.
Believing her and Half-Moon to be blessed by their god, they allowed the two girls to ascend to the "god rock" earthmote. There they found a circle of blind goblin druids tending to a botanical garden and a hut containing a shrine to Aegina. The druids inaugurated them by bringing them into the hut, having them consume a great deal of suspicious plants, and praying before an altar. Although they lost track of time due to their altered state, they were eventually left alone. They quickly gave the riddlerock its answer and swiped the lapis ring. But then, as they were trying to leave, Aegina herself spoke through the shrine. She revealed that she was just a powerful naiad seeking to better the goblins. Despite their deception, she judged the two as having good character, so she wished them well as the hut filled with water. They were transported to the river bed, where they struggled to resurface. But as they breached the shores, they were surprised to see night had fallen and the party having left.
Markus and Askra had returned to their camp outside town, where they were preparing to rest. That was until three centaurs clad in heavy armaments and warpaint strode down toward them.

Missions/Quests Completed

  • Markus, Lilith, and Askra donated to the Order of the Gauntlet's Neverwinter Restoration fund.
  • The goblins had since worn simple, blue Aegina vestments as their uniforms after Alessandra settled their dispute.
  • Alessandra still had faint tremorsense for a few days after consuming the suspicious plants.
