Neverwinter Stories: Campaign 1 — Session 24p1

Book One: The Trees of Life and Death – Chapter Twenty-Four Paralogue: Lost to the Woods

General Summary

Alessandra Corlinnar and Lilith Blackheart both agreed to go and investigate the missing child report from Icebrook Dairy together, immediately after resolving the orcish uprising at Heim Haug. They set out for the dairy and arrived in the afternoon of the following day. Once they spoke with the boy's distressed mother, Ester, they learned that he had disappeared two months ago  when he went to play by the creek. Search parties were sent to the creek and into the Neverwinter Woods beyond it, but they couldn't find any leads. Our heroines decided to investigate the woods with the farmhand who had been organizing the searches, Lukas.
When they entered the woods they found two things: signs of a skirmish, and a strange limestone boulder with gnomish writing carved onto it. Since neither of the two could read gnomish, Alessandra made a transcription, before the three continued further into the woods. Not long into their investigation did they have a close encounter with the blight beast from before—this time with an unconscious woman in its clutches. Although they managed to narrowly avoid detection, fleeing was not an option. As Lilith theorized; the creature was likely returning to it lair, a place where it would have brought everything it had hunted. Following it now was their only shot and finding that hidden place.
It was not long until they found the feted grove it called home. After the mass of tangled vine deposited its catch and left, the two girls snuck down into the den. Not only did they finding the woman, but they also found a dead adventurer and a dragon wyrmling all coiled in roots that slowly drank their blood. Sifting through the bones at their feet, our heroes found many that were child sized and determined that Cooper must be dead. They looted the adventurer and freed the woman and the wyrmling, drawing the ire of blight beast. The two barely escaped with their lives.
When they returned to the dairy, they thought they were going to have to deliver bad news to Alben and Ester. What they didn't expect was that the wyrmling was actually their son. The family, to their surprise, were actually steel dragons living the lives of simple dairy farmers. For returning their boy alive the couple promised to provided their undying support. Shortly after they also returned the woman, whose name was Rosanna, to her worried husband.
After all the excitement, the two made their way toward Xantharl's Keep. On their way the rested in Oakhurst where the had Dem “Corkie” Nackle translate Alessandra's transpiration. What they discovered was that it was a riddle written and signed by Benjalem.
