Neverwinter Stories: Book One – Chapter Nineteen

General Summary

Having returned to the surface, the party was met with the now awestruck Sky Pony tribe. They celebrated the return of divine message: Kienn happily accepting Markus' challenge, and Lilith Blackheart being rewarded with a blessed pegasus feather.
Not soon after the party, alongside Askra, Half-Moon, Worvil "the Weevil", and "Frog Face" Frank, got back onto the road and toward Heim Haug. On their way they came across a pile if commoners whose souls were ripped from their bodies using dark magic. Unsettled, they continued onward, only stopping once they were just a few miles from the steading. After a bit of scouting they discovered that the giant army had made it back before them. Seeing them as a serious threat, the party decided to use a secret entrance Worvil had spoken about, one that lead trough some underground caverns and into the steading's dungeon. They all agreed, although Markus was much more eager to progress than the others. He accidentally triggered an erupting earth trap, and soon after was ambushed by an ogre warden named Trogo "Good Shot". However, the sniper was expecting more than one traveler, so it wasn't long until he and his fellow ogres rooted out the rest of the party. Trogo interrogated them after gathering all them together. However, his scrutiny backfired as the bard Half-Moon cleverly manipulated the ogre's logic. He let the party go, having believed that they were actually allies of the Giants of Heim Haug.
Our heroes found the secret entrance at the bottom of a gulch just north of the steading; an underground stream that fed into the river. They traveled down the tunnel for a time, eventually arriving at the caverns below Heim Haug. Almost immediately they ran into GeorGedor's sentries—shadow mastiffs—and they were forced to defend themselves.
