Neverwinter Stories: Book One – Chapter Two

General Summary

Now inside the rats' den the party was faced with a monstrously-swollen, giant rat queen that the goblins call Guthash (Bloated One). The ensuing battle was fierce and very crowded. Rats began to poor from the walls, bodies began to pile, and too make things worse a small scout force from the Durbuluk Tribe tried to take advantage of the situation. There were many close calls and some were severely injured. Markus' leg was brutally maimed by Guthash, and shortly after an unknown disease began to ravage his body. Despite all this our heroes managed to make it out alive having set Guthash ablaze and casting her body into a nearby pit. The remainder of the rats fled the scene, as did the goblinoids. However, their efforts were stopped and the party's presence, as far as they knew, remained a secret.
All things went sour shortly after, as the parties sought to continue their expedition in spite of their condition. While investigating a strange magical fountain topped with the statue of a dragon, Markus and Zalak cooperated in an effort to antagonize an old, unstable spell bound to it. The stonework erupted, pouring an odd red liquid into the fountain's basin and critically wounding the two curious adventurers. It took the combined efforts of the rest of the party to stabilize them, but during their efforts Unit 7-5-3 was also mortally wounded. After stabilizing their third fallen ally, Alessandra ran to Yusdrayl for aid — Meepo left to tend to her allies. Having her request granted, she returned in the company of three of Yusdrayl's elite guards only to find that the party she left behind was in the process of being abducted by a second Durbuluk scout group.
