Neverwinter Stories: Campaign 1 — Session 31

Book One: The Trees of Life and Death — Chapter Thirty-One: Law Enforcement

General Summary

While the rest of the party was retrieving the 3rd armillary ring, Askra and Markus decided to turn in for the night. Not long after did a trio of centaurs, members the Groverunners, trot down the road toward them. They confronted the pair, telling them that they were searching for an elven bard who defiled their forest with their disease. The adventurers told them everything they knew and said that they would take their leader to Half-Moon in the morning.
Meanwhile, Halfmoon, Lilith, and Alessandra retired to the Sour Sugar inn. The nobles drank and socialized, but the elven bard took pity on and helped a drunken merchant named Harvey Stilton to his room. In the morning he tracked her down to say thanks, and to explain what he had been raving about the night prior. A rumor had been circulating that Stoneheart Tower held a powerful magical mirror, and if she were to bring it to him he could sell it a contact of his in Luskan and split the profit with her.
As promised, Markus and Askra led Groveprotector Mekorus through Blackford Crossing's customs and into the Sour Sugar. There they found their mark, who had just finished speaking with Harvey. The centaur immediately matched her with the description he was given, and demanded that she return to the Neverwinter Woods to be tried for her crimes. After much consideration she agreed, binding the two together by way of a geas spell. Not wanting her to go alone and wishing to support their friend, the Redwings all accompanied her to the trial.
Along the way, they encountered two men in a heated debate over who was the owner of a cobbler's wagon: Philip, a ginger half-dwarf, and Wagner, a towering human. The party intervened and tried to judge who was the actual owner. They first had them each repair a shoe, then Markus had them give a tour of all their tools inside the wagon. It was clear that neither of the men were actually professional cobblers. Half-Moon pulled each of them aside one at a time and got each of them to confess the truth. Philip said he stole the wagon in Oakhurst and is looking to sell its contents in Neverwinter. Wanger said he had stashed several pounds of Silkroot under the jockey box and was going to a sell it to a "special contact". Half-Moon took a bribe to let Philip keep the wagon, and Alessandra magically charmed Wagner into taking his drugs and turning himself into the authorities in Blackford Crossing.

Rewards Granted

Half-Moon recieved a bribe of 20 gold pieces from Philip so he could keep the cobbler's wagon.

Character(s) interacted with

The Redwings were confronted by Groveprotector Mekorus and two other Groverunners: Berkdus and Iderus.   While in town they spoke to Captain Rannulfr Engman, Theirastra, and Whurlbin Ruby-Eye II.   While on the road the party solved a dispute between Philip and Wagner.

Notes

  • Lilith found it entertaining to watch Half-Moon struggle to drag Harvey to his room.
  • Markus had introduced Iderus to alcohol, who enjoyed it greatly. Mekorus silently judged both of them.
  • This wasn't been the first time Harvey explained the rumor to others. Previously, he had hired a squad of Zhentarim mercenaries led by Ilyra, but that didn't pan out.
  • Mekorus damaged the front door of the Sour Sugar while entering it. The Redwings paid for the damage done.
  • Wagner was arrested and his Silkroot was confiscated by Captain Rannulfr immediately after confessing.
  • Philip arrived at Neverwinter a few days later, making a rather heavy profit after selling the wagon.
